    Hi getting to know you

Full fat yoghurt tastes better, and is a lot more filling as well. Half a banana would spike me into the high teens, and creamy plain yoghurt tastes fine to me. If you like adding something to your yoghurt, you can try nuts, nuts don't have many carbs. :)

Enjoy! I'm working tomorrow so I am a bit envious. Charity shops are wonderful for surprise finds, but even if I'm searching for a specific book I can usually find it second hand online. I'll be receiving a 40 euro gift card in the near future for participating in some study, so I'm allowed to...

Buying books... :bag: edit: way too many books. Or cool mugs at the thrift store. I do not need more than my current 30 or so mugs in a one person household.

    Hi getting to know you

What about having a full English, minus the beans and toast? Bacon and eggs, tomato, mushrooms, all fried in butter may fill you up better than that slice of toast. I tend to get hungry when my blood glucose is high, which makes sense because the glucose sitting in the bloodstream isn't being...

    Hi getting to know you

In the morning, it may be that two things are at play. Many of us experience 'foot on the floor' effect, basically our helpful livers dumping some extra glucose in our bloodstream to give us an energy boost to start the day with. Pretty useless if you have diabetes, and it means that many of us...

    Buying insulin in the UK

Hi @Dannno404 , is there a specific reason why you can't simply bring your insulin for this trip with you from Canada?

I think I'll want to make a meatloaf to eat on the bridge this week. I must have made meatloaf at some point, a long time ago, but I don't quite remember. So what are your tips on making meatloaf? Specifically one with very little work, nothing fancy...

For next time, you could use one of those weekly tablet organisers. Put a pen needle in for every day of the week so you can see if you took it or not.

    Concentration and glucose level

Hi @Maurice McNelis , yes, intense brain exercise drops me just like physical exercise does.

    Humalog mix (50/50 or 75/25)?

Like @searley said, I wouldn't expect a mixed insulin to be of help with post meal highs. Are you prebolusing, and by how long? For me it takes pretty long for my insulin to kick in as well, but it takes much longer to bring down a high than to prevent the high by a longer pre bolus. I often...

    Limiting carb intake v "5 a day"

Do you use a glucose meter to see how you react to your meals by testing before and two hours after meals? We're all different and a meter will show you how you deal with different veggies.

    Limiting carb intake v "5 a day"

Easy. For most veggies it takes a lot of them to come even close to 35 grams of carbs a meal, so if you just leave out the rice/spuds/bread/pasta you're not very likely to go over 35 grams a meal. Where are you getting your nutritional information from? If you use Google, the first result...

    Skin care

Hi @Steve Ella , welcome to the forum. If you're worried about a cut or a wound not healing well, please see your doctor about it or ask for advice through 111. In general, it's not advised to apply creams to open wounds.

    Hi getting to know you

Hi @Bobby105 , nice to meet you! Have you found any patterns relating to your food or the timing of your insulin with the hypers and hypos? Have you ever used a continuous monitor like freestyle libre to help finding patterns? They do a free trial if you've never used one before.

    Injection Sites

With my long acting I've never noticed a difference. I usually use my arms, but have done thigh, bum and belly too. My quick acting usually goes in my belly, occasionally in my arm. I've never noticed a difference with this either. I'm so tempted to try! :hilarious: Rather hard to reach...

I've been wondering about your type of diabetes ever since I've met you on the forum, years ago. More so after you started to grow bold with your insulin and decided to follow a typical T1 approach, combined with low carbing. Your diabetes seems to behave remarkably similar to my own, and...

We T1's start out as prediabetics too. Which can last for quite a while with the sometimes slow progress of LADA.

Please show her this. (And tell her that this doesn't even include all the misdiagnosed 'T2's on insulin' who were diagnosed between their 40's and 90's. Finding out you don't have T2 is often initiated by the patient, not their hcp, and if people are told very early on that T1 is impossible...

Need to vent - *&@# GP surgery messing me about

For what it's worth, I change my lancets about 3 times a year, and I test about 3 times a day. Doesn't hurt for me. Not officially recommended but many of us do so.
