Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

@Jim Baxter , the weather is getting right again for those who like a leasurely sail in good weather, go out! After many years of working on sailing ships, I'm now trying to choose my weather and only sail when my coffee won't get blown out of my mug (although I do love sailing in winter in very...

    Motivation

For me, the 'negative' reasons mentioned above do play a part. Of course I don't want to lose my eyesight, feet, or kidney function. More short term, I never again want to feel like I did during the time before diagnosis, 9 years ago, with high BG worsening my depression, giving me this horrible...

    What type am I?

An hba1c going from 44 to 144 in only 3 months is a very good reason to suspect it's not T2. There are more antibodies than only the GAD ones, so being negative fpr them doesn't tell you anything. Some T1's test negative for all currently known antibodies, antibody testing is very useful to...

    Just unable to cope anymore

Just a practical idea to make it a little easier to get some sleep: What about using earplugs so you don't hear the noise?

    Confused and exhausted and stressed

You'll want one with the cheapest teststrips, the strips are the ongoing cost. I'll tag @Rachox for you, she has a list of meters in the UK. Very happy to see you sound so much better today than yesterday! Tackling the confusion by learning, way to go!

    Struggling to lower sugars

How long ago did you start insulin? Finding the right dose takes time. Some people need 10 units a day, others need 200. An overdose is very dangerous, so finding the right dose means slowly titrating up until it's more or less right without going too low. Are you having regular contact with...

    Low carb meal plan

According to your profile, you're on metformin only, is that correct? If so, you can simply lower your carbs to lower your blood glucose, here's a very clear explanation of how T2 diabetes works in relation with food. It's written by one of our members...

    Just unable to cope anymore

I'm so sorry it went like this. It's a bit of the luck of the draw, but if you meet the wrong person just not fitting to who you are, 'help' can work gainst your mental health. At what point can the traquilizers be of help? If you need them to have a break, use them. I've had long, borderline...

"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Thank you! I simply went back to the store where I bought it during my break yesterday, and the friendly man there fixed my issues within 5 minutes! Not a macbook thankfully, I would have no idea how to use it. Just a very sturdy (steel body) old HP laptop running on Windows 10. :)

    Confused and exhausted and stressed

Hi @melissa_ob , welcome to the forum. I'm assuming you use a CGM like Freestyle Libre? While those are wonderful for seeing trends, they are less trustworthy when it comes to absolute numbers. Do you have a glucose meter to test with a fingerprick to verify those lows? My own Libres tend to...

What do you love to eat?

Off topic, but you might find it's not the cheese. My out of whack lipids on diagnosis pretty much came back in range as soon as I moved to a LCHF type of diet, got on insulin, and mostly normalised my BG. I can't promise it will be the same for you, but increasing fats (including saturated)...

What do you love to eat?

Have you found this thread yet? It often gives me good ideas for meals I want to try. :) https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-today-low-carb-forum.75781/page-3253

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Looks amazing! Care to share your recipe? I had my prepared evening meal on the bridge, all reheated in the microwave: runner beans with blue cheese, a tuna melt muffin, and a vegetable and egg thing. Earlier in the day I had a seeded cracker with ham and later on a cold tuna melt muffin...

Type 1 Dexcom one + blood thinners

Does the sensor still work, and can you stop the bleeding within a somewhat reasonable time?

This sounds like the extra exercise may have dealt with the extra carbs! Today was the first day of 3 again on the bridge. I used my break to buy a cheap (99 euros) second hand laptop to use at work, and it looks like a very good deal so far! After a few tries it turned out I did remember...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Congratulations for you, your daughter and her partner @DJC3 ! I had spareribs and some experimental veggie and egg things, think omelette with very little egg. And I prepared food for three days of work on the bridge.

    Can’t take metformin

Depends. What do you usually eat? Anything there to improve? Are you interested in changing your eating habits if it could help? If you're on dapagliflozin and gliclazide, metformin isn't likely to make much of a difference so I wouldn't worry about that.

    Fed Up

****, I'm so sorry you're going through this, and sorry the idiot vascular surgeon got stuck at hearing diabetes and other pre-existing conditions. Sounds pretty much like my neurologist last year who was way too quick to blame diabetes (hba1c in mid to low 30's for years) for my complaints. I...

    Statins and cholesterol

You didn't post your lab results so we can't really coment on them. Some doctors like to prescribe statins to all diabetics, regardless of lipid levels. And some diabetics have lipid levels that may be cause for some concern and a reason to consider statins. I was offered statins because I have...
