Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

We all have diabetes here so that part is boring, especially because you already found your way with asking diabetes related questions by starting a thread. We do need to know about the cat though!

    Type 1'stars R Us

I'm pretty impressed that your hba1c went up only a little, with two lots of steroids thrown into the mix! Especially with an improved TIR, showing you mostly managed the steroids well. :) Possibly the increase of your hba1c is because you've spent more time in the higher end of the range due to...

Having fewer lows will increase your hba1c and your TIR, can it be that?

"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I'm definitely not going to go hungry, you know me! And sending a food parcel is the sweetest thought, thank you! (Not going to give you the address of the Hermesbrug in Leeuwarden though, who knows what deliveries will come right when I've prepared food for 3 days! :bag:)

"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

But I like walking around in a supermarket and looking at stuff! The work is in deciding what I want to eat, and in finding the time and energy to actually cook, I can do my shopping during my break. :) On weekdays I have very odd working times: 9 am to 4 pm, then a 2 hour break because of...

"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Today was the third day of cauliflower with cheese fondue and chipolata sausages. I was to have three days off after today, but I've been asked to fill in for a sick colleague tomorrow and friday this afternoon, so only one day off before another 3 day stint on the bridge. Multiple appointments...

    Quadrophenia.

Aw, but the title is so funny in this context! It even made me buy a bluetooth speaker to listen to The Who all over at work on the bridge. Thank you for that, using my laptop at work for music or videos has gotten so much better after your thread tipped me over into spending 40 euros on a...

    Diabetic Backpack

Have you been on a mixed insulin before? Many people find it much harder to regulate their blood glucose on that than on a basal and bolus regime. If you're currently on basal and bolus, and you're sure you want to be on a mixed insulin while away, I'd start using it well before you leave, in...

    CKD and Diabetes

Hi @jbeelou , welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you need to start dialysis soon, but I hope it will make you feel better! Tagging @Ushthetaff , who is on dialysis, and @Grant_Vicat , who has lived with CKD for a long time.

What is the difference between a regular backpack and a diabetes backpack?

Three days on the bridge again, today was the first day. The cheese fondue was on offer at Lidl so I fancied cauliflower with cheese fondue by way of cheese sauce. (Both a pack of cheese fondue and a cauliflower last me 3 days, perfect for a 3 day stint.) Trouble is that it doesn't doesn't do...

    HbA1c unchanged but GP happy

Doesn't matter what brand it is, your meter clearly shows you it's fine for you!

    HbA1c unchanged but GP happy

Perfectly normal, and it proves that your chosen yoghurt works very well for you. :) The initial rise was likely your liver adding some glucose to your bloodstream to help get you going for the day, the drop shows that you can deal with the yoghurt just fine. A reason to eat the 10% yoghurt...

    High sugars with gallstones

Hi @Libby66 , yes, inflammation of any kind tends to raise our blood glucose. Being a T1, have you been in contact with your diabetes team (endo or diabetes nurse) to discuss adjusting your doses?

    HbA1c unchanged but GP happy

Most likely because your 'daily allowance' isn't based on your personal data - blood glucose numbers before and after foods, but on a standardised number. I agree with @Pipp , the main problem with (pre)diabetes is the risk of developing long term complications, the keywords being 'long term'...

    Dapagliflozin

Hi @Schnicky , welcome to the forum. Those side effects sound pretty unbearable. Can you contact your doctor or diabetes nurse to discuss stopping this medication due to side effects and seeing if a non-flozin type of medication would work better for you?

    Ascend trial

Hi @veronicagoldie , that's wonderful to hear! If you're interested in other peoples experiences too, there is a long thread on the trial here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/anyone-on-the-ascend-plus-trial.199683/page-18

    Easy To Make Pesto

Do not plant nettles anywhere near your home, you'll regret it. Someone considering buying nettle seeds is very much a first to me! :hilarious: And I'll stop the derailing here. @Zixx , I don't have any experience with low carb noodles (I usually just have the sauce without the noodles, or...
