    All inclusive

There's still plenty you can have. Meat, fish, veg, salads all washed down with red wine. Having diabetes and a bit of a phobia of amputation does seem to give me extra willpower. Relax my diet a little on holiday but don't go mad.

    WHY?!!

Just be aware that Metformin often causes stomach upsets. It took me a while to get used to it and now I have reduced the amount I take by going low carb. I travel quite a lot and having type2 has never been a problem. Enjoy your trip.

    Bulletproof Marmite

I often drink Marmite on its own, but will definitely try with butter, sounds yummy.

    Frustrated !

I think a lot of the trouble lies with the NHS. I have a friend who just does as his doctor/nurse orders - increase the meds. He's now on insulin and still gets high bs, also has problems with eyes. The doctors haven't told him to cut carbs only sugar so he eats a pizza, drinks juice or beer but...

ARRGGHHHHHH CAN WE ALL BOMBARD LIDL PLEASE

My local Lidl (Southend, Essex) still sell the high protein rolls. I bought a dozen this week. I believe they are made on the premises as I once had to wait 10 minutes as they were 'still too hot'

    Been in denial now freaking....

This is an excellent video, every person with diabetes should watch it. Far more useful than anything the NHS advises.

    Exercise Type 2

All very well if you can get the help from your DN or GP. I was on 4x80mg of Gliclazide when I started low carb, got no help or advice, did cut meds but not enough initially and had a few quite severe hypos (especially after drinking red wine). Seem to have got the balance right now. I agree we...

    Exercise Type 2

Normally if you reduce your carb intake you need to reduce your meds (Gliclazide) to prevent hypos. You shouldn't have to eat extra carbs to counteract the meds, even after moderate exercise.

Type 2 - the lazy illness.

I couldn't agree more. I used to work in a school and about 20 years ago when I first started a 5 year old child died of undiagnosed type 1 diabetes. I can never forget this. Also, speaking as a type 2 who has never been overweight and always fairly active, I get upset by the labels attached to me.

New Type 2 - After Some Fruit Advice!!

Welcome to the forum, you are in the right place. If you can cut sugar and obvious carbs, i.e. bread, pasta, rice, beer and potatoes your bs levels should come down and the weight off. Substitute the occasional glass of red wine for beer, cauliflower rice for rice, courgetti for pasta, berries...

Type 2 No/Lo Carb Diet to Induce Diabetic Remission

Walking helps. I walk at least an hour a day and if the weather is awful I have a treadmill to fall back on. I still take one gliclazide a day, used to be on 4, but not stopped it as happy with my HbA1c as things are. Don't think I have the willpower to go even lower carb than I do now. Sounds...

Type 2 No/Lo Carb Diet to Induce Diabetic Remission

I am surprised that you haven't already had to reduce your meds. When I started low carb I was on gliclazide and had a few quite bad hypos ( one only 2.3) until I reduced the meds.

Are Doctors really up to speed with T2?

Like you I didn't get any useful advice or help from GP or diabetes nurse. Got a lot more help from this site.

    Not new - need help

Sounds like you may need more than Metformin to bring blood sugar down if you only had a few carbs and reading is 23. I would see your doctor. At least your blood pressure and cholesterol are fine. Good luck

Doctors need a course in communication

My doctor didn't even look up from his computer when first informing me that I am diabetic. No advice, no courses, no help. Just tablets.

    Diet

Well done for finding this site and taking control. To start with I suggest you just cut our bread, rice, pasta, cereals and cut down on root veg. Doing that alone might do the trick, as you are 'just' pre diabetic, should definitely reduce blood sugar levels. Good luck.

Why is the Low Carb programme No Longer Free?

Perhaps disgraceful was not a good choice, but I do think it a real pity that people will miss out because of the charge. There must surely be another way. The program has already been developed and was rolled out for free. For many years I was ignorant of the relevance of carbs, simply followed...

Why is the Low Carb programme No Longer Free?

I don't spend anywhere near that for a month on my phone! The low carb program may be worth it but people won't know. I believe a lot would be put off signing up, which is a great shame as it can be very beneficial.

Why is the Low Carb programme No Longer Free?

The low carb program was my first introduction to lchf. Didn't receive any advice from doctors etc about carbs. But probably wouldn't have looked at the program if I had to pay £30 up front as no idea what it was all about. I think it is disgraceful that there is now a charge.
