Is there a Stigma attached to your diabetes ? What is your experience.

Just wonder what you mean by type2s being being baby fed meals and meds?

    Your Healthcare Team

I feel I have never received any useful advice or support from my healthcare team in the 10 years since being diagnosed type2. Would be entirely on my own except for this site!

Slim T2 - Gliclazide long term

I've been on gliclazide for almost 10 years, was put straight on 40mg as not overweight. Meds steadily increased until I was on 4x80mg gliclazide plus 4x 500mg metformin plus alogliptin. Now follow lchf and reduced meds to just 3 tablets a day. Not sure if medication contributed to any...

    Vitamins & Supplements

I take vitamin B12 on prescription and D in the winter as I've been low then. Alpha Lipoic Acid sounds interesting, will do a bit more reading about that - thanks.

New here but not to diabetes :(

Welcome. Try not to feel foolish for just accepting the meds dished out - a lot of us did exactly the same! I did for 9 years before discovering this forum and lchf.

    Low carbing and other stuff.

    Well done, a brilliant start.

    Not a good week

I, like most people, lapse occasionally but the longer I have been following lchf the less often I lapse or feel the urge to! You're doing fine.

    Hypos

I had a few hypos, lowest 2.3, when I first started lchf as I was on Gliclazide and hadn't reduced this enough.

    Gliclazide and normal diet.

    That's brilliant, well done.

    Contradiction & Dilemma

Just to say well done for getting your bg levels down so quickly. You can get a lot of help and advice on here. Perhaps you do need to increase the fat. When I first went low carb hf I lost weight even though I didn't really need to and I ate lots of fat - mainly nuts and cheese!

    Some doctors have no idea!!!!!

I do agree that GPs are busy and can't be expected to be experts in every field, but diabetes nurses and dietitians should bother to know their stuff.

    Some doctors have no idea!!!!!

Like thalidomide - years of prescribing before the effects were recognised

    Some doctors have no idea!!!!!

Unfortunately I think a lot of people only listen to their doctors and follow their advice. I can understand a chap not taking much notice of someone he was delivering to if it opposes what his doctor has said. We have been brought up to 'Trust me, I'm a doctor.' Perhaps if diabetics started to...

    Some doctors have no idea!!!!!

I was type 2 for almost 9 years before I discovered low carb hf . My doctors, nurse and dietitian all said I didn't need to change my diet and just take meds. These kept going up after every blood test. It never occurred to me that they were ALL wrong. No advice is better than the wrong advice...

Type 2 Wobbly and low BG levels

I've been diabetic for over 9 years now and tried to control with medication (as advised by NHS) regularly ran quite high bs levels. When I first went lchf felt really wobbly and 'not right' if levels fell to the 4s. Body must have got so used to being high. Now feel fine with lower levels. Good...

Max amount of pills per day?

Hi Steve I was on 2,000 metformin. 320 gliclazide and an alogliptin each day. I was told this was the max, next step insulin. Now go lchf and halved gliclazide and metformin and no alogliptin. Blood sugars are best ever, so diet is a much healthier option than meds. Never been overweight either.

Diagnosed yesterday type 2 on Metformin

Welcome to the forum. I followed the NHS advice, low gi and 'healthy' plate, but my meds gradually increased. Found this forum and now follow lchf and meds drastically reduced. Blood sugar best ever. So I would recommend lchf any day. Good luck. Jan
