    Pump start

Hello Marmite-lover!!! Well done on getting this far and sharing your experience of diabetes :) I fought and waited 5 years for my pump but it was still terrifying to start so I know how you feel about running the other way  I wasn't prepared for how hard the change from MDI to pump...

    Thirsty but not high

I've been on the pump for almost a year now and one thing I've noticed is periods of intense thirst, that are exactly like the ones I used to get that alerted me that I was high, but my BG seems fine. High for me used to be over 14 and I would get the thirst from about 16 onwards. Now my...

Travelling with a pump to Moscow

lol no problems  With regards to time zones I didn't change anything until got there. Russia is 3 or 4 hours ahead so I tended to change the clock on my pump that evening. This did effect my BG the next day but I just corrected as needed and by the day after everything had settled. On...

    Insulin doesn't work!!

Hello Lee :) Firstly where are you injecting? Are you rotating enough? What length of needle are you using? You might find the insulin is not getting absorbed properly and this would lead to the issues you are describing. Other posters are right about doing more blood tests. Yes blood testing...

Travelling with a pump to Moscow

Have just realised you might not be able to get a GP letter due to bank holiday. The only other alternative is to take your repeat prescripton, unless you have an old letter from a previous trip abroad.

Travelling with a pump to Moscow

It's me!! Thanks for the heads up Donellysdogs :) Danielle we adopted our son from Russia so I had to travel there 4 times. We flew into remote Russia and also via St Petersburg. Remote Russia was more of an issue for me as I knew they were unlikely to have ever seen a pump. I wear the pump on...

    Contour Link test machine

If I suspect my meter is not accurate I use my husband like control solution. Is there anyone who you could test to see what the machine says? Also have you washed your hands as anything left on them can affect some sensitive machines.

How many sites do you rotate?

Liklejojo pump fatigue is when your sites stop absorbing insulin as well due to overuse and scarring. It's preventable to a point by not using sets longer than the recommended time, good skin care and good rotation etc. I am petite and have moles in areas that would otherwise be ideal so I'm...

How many sites do you rotate?

I can only use my stomach and hips for pumping and I rotate my sites carefully. I end up with about 12-14 sites before I get back to the same area. I am hoping this is enough to avoid the dreaded pump fatigue later on! How many sites do other people manage?

    Insulin Pump loan

Hello Gill Have you considered a hypo dog? I have used dogs all my life to assist with hypos. I have brittle diabetes so my control is very erratic and a pump was the only solution overall but if you are a dog lover it is another option for you to consider. Your mum must be so worried at night...

    OD on insulin

I had this issue when my BG machine packed up. It was New Years Eve and the machine got stuck on one reading, which said I was 3.2, so I treated the hypo twice and then by third reading and feeling very ill I realised the machine was broken  Luckily back then I was on MDI and we muddled...

    Occlusions

Hi Burn I found I had this issue in some areas after I had lost a lot of weight. I was only using the 6mm so I expect 8mm is even worse! Are you able to try some 6mm sets from another manufacturer? Also you might find changing the 8mm more often helps, like every other day. I get occulsion...

    DANA diabecare R

Hi Vikki What infusion sets do you use with this pump? It's a while before I can change my pump but my main concern is sets and having one that is easy to insert with firing device included. However I really like the look of this pump :)

    My first gusher

:( Did my set change and was painless and comfy - all seemed fine. Two hour BG 10 and was feeling thirsty. Thought I might have a kinked cannula so pulled the set. Was busy looking at the perfect straight cannula when I looked down and there was blood gushing everywhere!!! Gross!! I normally...

    motor error

OMG thats awful!! When choosing my pump I was very concerned about reliability. My clinic has over 100 patients on pumps and I spoke off record to the nurses about it. They said some companies were too quick to improve pumps without fully testing them or to cut corners to add better features...

How can I try to remember I'm attached to a £3000+ machine?!

Re: How can I try to remember I'm attached to a £3000+ machi Hello! I have the 2020 and I had the same problem in the early days. I find the pump sits best clipped on the front of my bra and it never falls off or gets in the way. If I do wear it on jeans I always clip it to the waist of the...

    Before or after?

Hi LittleSue! I change my set and then eat my meal (normally lunch). I then test 2 hours afterwards. At that point if my BG is higher than I'd like I also do a correction. However I can't be sure a set is working with one BG so I wait another 40-60 mins and test again. By then your BG should be...

    What do you use?

I use either a cotton bud dipped in baby oil or LiftPlus spray, which I have on prescription. I can't use the LiftPlus if the new set is too near the old one as it loosens the new one (might be just my bad aim!!) so then I use the baby oil.

    Anyone use Inset 30?

Since being on the pump (and off of Levemir which I was allergic to) I have lost a huge amount of weight. I am now a size 10 and only carry a little fat around my middle and hips. On MDI I would have been so happy with this but on the pump less fat isn't proving so beneficial, for me anyhow. My...

    Pink tubing...

Hello! Not sure exactly why this happens later on but I know if the tubing "takes on a rosy glow" you are meant to change site and set. I'm guessing it can effect your BG. With a steel needle you get damage from the needle as you move about. Maybe you nicked something at the tip? The damage...
