    Troubles with 13 yr diabetic

I was diagnosed at 13. I wasn't really too worried about peer pressure or anything as I just used to eat what I wanted just like everyone else, and inject the appropriate level of fast acting insulin. Unfortunately I was usually a bit inaccurate with my guesses this then used to upset me. I...

Why, oh why is it that.......

You are not alone. I thought it was just me being a bit OCD (no offense intended to true sufferers). I have a cunning plan though. I get 2 boxes of all my various pills and potions each time and then empty each pair out, chuck the leaflets and force all into one box. Voila. Don't have to worry...

    Insulin, needles and flying

I've been told you should never put the insulin in your hold luggage as the temperature gets too cold for the insulin and it ruins it. Until then I always had some in hand and some in hold in case one lot got lost

    How were you diagnosed

I was just turned 13 and away at boarding school. I'd been drinking and peeing constantly for about 3 Weeks. My mum came down to watch me in a hockey match (hadn't seen me for 4 Weeks) and took one look at me ( I only weighed 4 1/2 stone at this point) and told me to go see Matron on Monday. One...

    Vitrectomy

Thanks for your responses. I'm now 5 Weeks post op and am desperately waiting for the gas bubble to disappear. Have now got blurred vision in my eye but can't tell what the final outcome will be as a lot of the blurring is due to reflections etc off the bubble. Is still better than it was tho...

Want to try low carbon diet but not lose weight

Although I've been t1 for about 25 years I'm just realising how rubbish I am really when it comes to diet. I'd like to give low carbing a go but have no clue where to start. I eat about 200g a day. I definitely don't want to lose weight (am 5ft 2 and just under 8 stone). Can anyone give me any...

    Diabetic Eye Screening

I have been T1 for 25 years. Please do not worry about the eye screening. As others have said, it doesn't hurt, just stings a bit for about a minute. my clinic always ask how I'm getting home and actually refuse to do the test if u say you are driving. Also say I cannot drive for 8 hours...

    Monitoring

Just to add to marferret s post. I am T1 but have always hated testing due to the pain and the fact that I bleed too well! For the last 5-6 years I have been testing on the tops of my forearms (below the elbow) as my machine said I could in the instructions. Sooooo much less painful u hardly...

    Vitrectomy

Thanks for the support. I had the op on Thursday and apparently all went well. Am now spending the next week having to lay on my back and stare at the ceiling. Can't see anything yet but have my fingers crossed. Am having horrendous trouble keeping my sugars down though. there are a few ketone...

    Vitrectomy

Hi I'm new to this forum and am looking for some advice from anyone about a vitrectomy. I have been a T1 since i was 13 (38 now). I last had a retinopathy check up in July and was told all was ok but had a sudden big haemorrhage in one eye a month ago. Was told I have proliferative retinopathy...
