Annual Hba1c and cholesterol blood test

Ah thanks for that. My previous GP surgery used to do cholesterol, HDL and ratio along with trig and LDL. I'm of the understanding that testing LDL is not done often for various reasons so the ratio is usually "total cholesterol/HDL" instead of "total cholesterol/LDL". That will answer why I...

Annual Hba1c and cholesterol blood test

Well done on the weight loss, that's amazing. Since diagnosis 9 years ago I have lost two stone. Been stuck at this weight now for a year and can't seem to shift the last two stone I want to lose. Any advice regarding LCHF would be appreciated.

Annual Hba1c and cholesterol blood test

Well done! That's great. My cholesterol has been in the 5's for years. Personally I don't consider this high enough to warrant staton therapy, but that's just my opinion.

Annual Hba1c and cholesterol blood test

Enclave... My diabetes nurse sent me to the dietitian last year who told me if I went below 130g of carbs a day she would stop seeing me!

Annual Hba1c and cholesterol blood test

Thank you both for confirming my suspicions. The letter states you do not need to fast, but I thought that would affect the cholesterol reading. They do check kidney function too yes and I always get them to check thyroid as well as its in my family. I will be fasting for my bloods. They are...

Annual Hba1c and cholesterol blood test

I've had a letter inviting me for my annual review. It says I do not need to fast for the hba1c and cholesterol blood test. Surely this will affect the readings. What difference does it make if I fast or not? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Background Retinopathy : any help please!

Thank you noblehead. I shall take a look at your link. They have only said they will see me again next year as normal. I've gone from "slight changes" to background retinopathy in one year! It has freaked me out a bit. Thought I had good control...obviously not as good as I thought! :S

Background Retinopathy : any help please!

Hi, I'm fairly new to this forum although have had gestational diabetes twice and been type 2 diet controlled for 9 years now. Diabetes runs in my family (thanks mum)! I've just been told after my annual screening that I have background retinopathy. Is this reversible or is it just going to get...

    Please help! I'm scared!

Some lancets have a thicker gauge needle than others so you might want to experiment with different lancing devices and lancets if you find that the shallowest setting on your lancing device still hurts. You will get used to it with time. It's just frightening to start with. Also, ask your...

    Test strip work around

As a type 2, getting test strips on the NHS is like pulling hens teeth. Buy mine privately and have refused both the metformin and statins that were handed out to me like sweets on the day I was diagnosed. Have adapted diet and saved the NHS 9 years of prescriptions! Doesn't stop them from...

    LCHF Diet

How does LCHF affect diabetics with regards to the ketones it can produce? I'm interested in trying LCHF but am concerned about the ketone side of the diet. Can anyone shine a light on this aspect of it for me please? Much appreciated . (I'm type 2 diet controlled and had gestational diabetes...

Why do GP recommend not to test blood sugars with glucose meter?

I used to use a Bayer USB but the test strips were costing £26.99 so I recently changed to the new Dario which at £17.99 is cheaper for test strips and the fact that I can use it with my smartphone is brilliant. Have managed to stay diet controlled for 9 years so far, long may it continue...

Why do GP recommend not to test blood sugars with glucose meter?

Initially I used to get test strips and lancets on prescription which I paid the standard prescription charge for as diet controlled. Then they decided diet controlled type 2s shouldn't test so they were stopped. I've been paying for my own meters, test strips and lancets ever since. If I...

    Type 2 testing program

I haven't because I use a different meter and test strips. I would be interested in getting a copy of the guidance notes, etc, so that I could follow the program with my own meter and strips. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    bmj statins & lies

My cholesterol level when last checked at GP's was 5.1. It's been in the 5's for years no matter what I eat. The GP's have been trying to push statins on me ever since I was diagnosed in 2005. Every year it's the same argument! NICE recommends every diabetic be put on statins, apparently!
