    Managing exercise and insulin

Hi Michael Well you you could tamp damp your basal if on a pump while walking eg 75% for the duration of the walk. Snack wise most of the slow carb stuff ie oats is mixed with fast acting sweetener eg sugar, HFCS, honey, treacle for palatability. Hence the benefit of oaty stuff is reduced re...

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

Thankyou Shannon :-). I sort of ok now. :-) Addisons with T1D can leave one exhausted though when the dosing isnt right which can you make you either exhaustion and/ or low moody which i think has impacted my social and professional life cumulatively. Worst of all no research is being done on a...

    Tummy fat

Hi Frances I used walk 3.5 miles twice a day to and from work and it was perfect for maintaining a fixed weight with a few beers and carby diet. I imagine if one did same amount of exercise Mon-Fri on a lower carb diet, the weight would come off. I should add i used fart about on weekends...

I'm sorry to hear that. Apparently 4 diabetics die from hypos a week in the UK. Its disturbing. I suppose we dont really socialise especially with fellow diabetics so maybe we dont see bad hypos.

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

Precisely. I used to live in Germany in a flat alone where i developed Addison's Disease on top of type 1 diabetes. The adrenal glands produce cortisone a steroid to handle low level every day stress. It also desensitizes you, physiologically to insulin's effects. Undiagnosed and with...

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

I used be on leve and found it acted quickly enough. And faded out quickly too, which you could tell by the mid a.m. desert feeling on those a.m. when you fogot it or whacky hypo beginings mid morning if you double dolloped on the leve. It was from this i developed my rotate the pen lid to be...

    carnivore diet

Hi I'm T1 and on an informal similar diet to you. I'm on a pump so no long acting. But i'm about 55% basal to 45% bolus, which is equiv to background: rapid acting. Some days when eat less carbs i might be on ~2:1 basal to bolus when all the basal bolus is added up across the day, but i dont...

    Managing exercise and insulin

Well done you :-). I used to go jogging which was ok although i was a bit of light weight about it. But i also used to walk e-v-e-r-y-w-he-r-e. One day a visting friend and i climbed some steep hill (anyone else know Bath?) to a pub for lunch and a game of chess. Afterwards i suggested we try...

Is it legal for your gp to leave you without needles?

Were these needles for insulin injections or something else? I use a number of types, excluding 1) glucagon needles and 2) pen injector needles or canula in my case, i also use one for another 3 ) disease and 4) a microsyringe (~30mm long) which i carry inside my test kit as a backup in case...

    Type 1 Liver

Diurnal cycling regulates lotto hormonal processes. Cortisone, a hormone which desensitises us to insulin, dips at ~3am and 3pm restoring sensitivity to insulin at those times ( i've with no cortisone i am 3x as sensitive to insulin or at least have reduced my insulin to 1/3 the normal level...

Anonymous Question Why did they stop making pork insulin?

Agreed. Human insulin has a much quicker on off profile in the blood giving less time to notice lows developing, although more rapid correction of highs. Additionally U100 strength i think is too strong for light weight people including children. U40 or U60 would allow finer titration of doses...

Jelly babies. But check the carb content on nutritional information. And best of all they dont get too sticky in summer surprisingly. Pop a couple in and enjoy the zingy yummyness. Sluurpps. You gotta resist chucking the whole mini pack in though.
