    Work Sandwich Box

The orange juice even if low sugar would be better swapped to water - and its free. I admit I have always been a water drinker, and with a thick slice of lime or similar in it its not so bad. I use a refillable bottle and nowadays a water filter jug as I find the water tastes better for longer.

    Tea and Biscuits

The cream bit is ok unless it has been sweetened, just not the cake. A chocolate eclair with some of the chocolate scraped off it would be a better choice than a cream slice. Check the menu over, there might be something on there that you could adapt to - a late breakfast without the toast. To...

Can you set alarms on a mobile phone? Choose a really annoying tone then you may find that you gradually pre empt it.

    Telling off for self testing

Usually have to go to surgery with proof of who you are for the 2nd level of access. Passport or driving licence should be fine.

Type 2 Significant bleed behind eye...urgent referral

Just a word to hopefully offer you some reassurance. I think it was Boots that said the same to me and got an urgent referral within the next day or so. This was several years ago and the hospital consultant was not overly concerned at the time and said the opticians had panicked and it wasn't...

    Test strips best prices?

Probably easiest to do a Google search. They are sold in so many different quantities and combinations, the cheapest being if you get a regular subscription.

PORRIDGE made with water or low fat milk?

Unlikely to try it but Tesco now sell frozen porridge. Unsure how that would work or timings in the microwave. I have used Flavahans porridge and only takes 2m in the microwave. [emoji3]

Anyone else feel their Doctor(s) let them down ?

Hi, if in the UK then you can also get a copy of test results fron the hospital that the blood is sent to for testing. Useful if the gp surgery is dragging its feet.

    Slippers

Hi Charlie, I expect they are suggesting a good quality, deep and roomy pair that are put on fully rather than slip ons like mules. Cosyfeet online do a good range but you do really need to try them on. Try and find an old fashioned shoe shop, they are around, or ask a Clark's to order you in a...

Blood test results 6 months on..

Just a thought but if you are keen to stick with the porridge, could you have it later in the day and have something like eggs for breakfast? Many people get a spike from porridge and often also have a raised BG on waking so it can give you a double whammy.

    Please don’t stop posting...

Bought some cheddar with ginger at a local food market some weeks ago in a vacuum pack and finally had some yesterday - it was delicious if a little strange. I suspect it may have been crystallized ginger but only teeny amounts.

    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

Re the care worker, I'm sure the husband could have stayed in the room if any concerns. My 18 year old granddaughter is a care worker supporting people at home with meds, meal times and personal care/hygiene for males and females. They usually work in pairs to protect both themselves and clients...

Porridge, what are the for and against thoughts

I used to have the same as you every day but now just have a bowl occasionally on a particularly cold morning. I know many don't ever have it as for some it can push up the blood sugars. However, I find it keeps me full for ages and a warm tummy!

    dry and sore eyes

Dry, sore eyes are not necessarily caused by diabetes. Maybe try the Optrex mist that you spray on closed eyes.

    Taken off gliclazide

Hi, if the gp prescribes the test strips, you may find that these are removed from your list of meds if you are no longer on the glicazide - sneaky but true!

    Canesten cream unavailable for prescription

I am on meds that increase the chances of getting thrush. Asda own brand is good and a good price but again due to age they won't generally sell it. Have now bought similar product from ebay, 6 tubes of clotrimazole for £6.99 with free P&P! Very happy with product. Re the age issue, the...

    Confused undiagnosed

If you are in the UK, then many chemists will do a pin prick test for you, maybe time it around 2 hours after you have eaten or just before a meal. If very high then the pharmacist may recommend a visit to the gp or even ring them on your behalf to speed things up for you. Lloyds chemist also...

advice on increasing insulin dose due to illness

Can you have a look back through paperwork given to you when you prescribed insulin? The information should include info on 'sick day' rules and include how much you should increase. Mine says to increase 2 units a day until controlled but yours is likely to be different.

    Slow cooker v oven

Daughter's multi function slow cooker arrived this morning for Christmas. She is very excited (must be a grown up now!) as she loves her old standard one that is now failing. She has just discovered the delight of making fudge in it. Sadly I don't think there is a low carb version of this for...

Type 2 Painkillers suitable for T2 sufferers

Hi, I would film/record her misery and insist that you go back to the doctor with her. It may or may not be related to the diabetes. Demand action such as x-ray or scan to check the main site of pain. TENs machine may help as may painkillers but she needs a proper diagnosis first. 75 is not...
