    Highish fasting reading?

I'd say you're probably right there about the "1/3 healthy carbs message". I do think there is a fair chance you might see the effects of a lower carb diet on your blood sugar sooner rather than later. It was certainly pretty swift for me. Good luck!

    Hba1c test

@niaz11 well done on reducing your HBA1c to such a level! I too wondered about "being in remission" when I got mine below 42 after a few months of making drastic changes (most importantly low carb diet). I read a few studies where people achieved a big reduction initially like me, but then...

    New here

Hi @andy18 - I was a bit reluctant too but 2 yrs after diagnosis eventually joined. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Welcome.

    Travel Insurance

I've used comparison sites and was pleasantly surprised to find that the results came up with one or two options where the insurance premiums were not too much higher than before my diagnosis.

    Progress

Hi @niaz11 - I went low carb and also ramped up my exercise after diagnosis. Going low carb actually made me feel more energetic compared to prior so the extra gym/exercise was not a problem. You can get energy from fat and protein as well so it isn't necessary to have carbs per se for...

    Newcastle Diet day 1 !!

@KeithAnd congratulations on step 1 and your progress so far! This thread will be really useful to folks considering the ND type approach. Look forward to hearing about steps 2 and 3......

Type 2 Newbie stress & diabetes?

I use a blood glucose meter which can be bought by individuals without a doctor's prescription (type 2s don't seem to get them on prescription as a rule, although every now and then someone on the forum reports that they have). They come with test strips and a finger prick device to allow...

Type 2 Newbie stress & diabetes?

Hello @socks55 I too had not eaten meat for decades but did always (and still do) eat dairy. When I was diagnosed it is likely that I had been diabetic for some time too as my blood sugar was very high. My opinion is stress was a factor in my becoming diabetic. At the time of my...

    Cholesterol

I too had cholesterol medications suggested for me when I had HbA1c above the normal range with a cholesterol reading similar to yours. When I queried why they were being suggested the reason given was that as a diabetic I had a higher cardiovascular risk and so the cholesterol should ideally...

Any good reports on ACV and Chia seeds

@Ellabella1 - I don't think it is a fluke. A few weeks ago I started drinking half a glass of water with 1 tsp of ACV just prior to my main meal of the day. I have seen relatively consistent post-prandial BG levels which are a little lower than the trend of the few weeks prior. My...

    Little shell shocked..

The first time I linked to a thread it only appeared with the url text. This time it appeared with the text of the first post so I can see why it looks as if that text it is actually part of my post. That is not how it showed up in the draft. If I link to others' post again I will make it...

    Little shell shocked..

@KennyA - not sure if you thought it was I who was mentioning the bodies, but it wasn't. I was linking to a thread where the third post in that thread contains info about meters which as what NorthernPheonix was asking about. Clicking on the link, the first post in that thread, which is the...

    Just discovered

Tried out the bean sprouts and have to say they for me they work better with my Quorn mince sauce better than courgetti or Bare Naked noodles/spaghetti.......

    Little shell shocked..

There aren't any daft questions :) ...when it is out of the blue there is no reason you'd know about meters. The third post down in the following thread has info on meters and links to suppliers: Paying for test strips unfair if you've been told to self monitor. This is an absolute DISGRACE...

    Little shell shocked..

Hello @NorthernPhoenix My diagnosis experience was similar to what you describe so I'll share my experience it in case it could be helpful. I also was called into my doctors surgery and checked for ketones further to having a very high HBA1C - a bit higher than yours. I was also referred for...

Newly Diagnosed with HBA1C at 86

Mine is a very similar experience to @Outlier , though I wouldn't say those healthcare practitioners who I saw were furious. I had luckily found places like this forum where I was able to learn from others' experience just in time so when I met with healthcare folk I was ready to discuss the...

    Dramatic weight loss

Hi @Ian090 - when I cut out carbs, essentially going keto, I had a similar rate of initial weight loss in the first few weeks. When your intake is absent of carbs it also retains less water.

Husband newly diagnosed but not listening

I think it is really worth considering. As type 2 diabetes can often have no noticeable symptoms seeing the readings might well help. I find seeing the blood glucose readings is effective in keeping me from becoming complacent. The third post down in the following thread has info on meters...

Type 2 Types of type 2 diabetes

I can't throw more light on that but it is a good question to ask. I have not seen these sub-type definitions before but I have been wondering about my own status, i.e. am I SIDD, SIRD or CIRD (I tried to articulate this in my own words up until now). I've managed to get to normal HbA1c...
