Seeking advice using Glucose monitoring machine

Welcome aboard Clare. To give you a good idea of what you're eating is doing to your blood sugar levels, it's best to test first thing in a morning before you have breakfast and then again two hours after you've eaten and repeat that for each meal and then again before you go to bed. As you get...

Type 2 a few years, but new to forum

Welcome aboard Gazz. I think you've really got to push to get yourself a meter so that you can find out how what you're eating is affecting your blood sugar levels and then start looking at making change as necessary.

    Gary, Newly diagnosed type 2

Welcome aboard Gary. Seems to me that your next step should be getting yourself a meter so that you can start testing and see how what you're eating is affecting your blood sugar levels. Good luck!

    Step into Spring

And back home again ... another three miles (mostly downhill this time) and another 523 calories burnt. Two/three months ago I simply wouldn't have had the energy to do that but feel like I could do a few more miles yet. Not going to though - slippers on and feet up for the rest of the day

    Step into Spring

Gorgeous days after the sun burned the mist off and had a good walk - just over 6 miles in 2 hours with plenty of uphill and according to my pedometer I did 12,981 steps and burnt 1,066 calories. Off for another one now, though not as long.

    High blood sugars

You need to watch the snacking. Four or five biscuits is going to have more carbs than a meal and a lot of sugar - a plain digestive biscuit is about ten carbs. Try a day without snacking and see what your blood sugars are like. Not easy, I know, but you're just going to keep your levels high...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Insulin doses are where they've been for the last couple of weeks but I did have quite a bit of carb yesterday - more than I've been having recently anyway - so may well be a delayed reaction. And don't worry ... not going to be deterred ... after last week's session with my GP I'm more...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

8.1 at 7.30 :( 6.6 at 10.05 last night and had an early night - had the usual Greek yogurt before retiring so at a bit of a loss to explain this one.

    Trying to turn things around

Thanks. Weighing myself twice a day is working for me at the moment ... if it creeps up over a couple of days it's a reminder to get back to what I was doing before. Think I'd find it a lot harder if say I weighed myself once a week and my weight had gone up. Might need to review things in time...

    Trying to turn things around

Thanks. To be fair to my doctor, she doesn't seem the sort to worry and seemed perfectly happy for me to be the one to make the decision ... and I'm not one to rush into things. Keeping on losing weight and keeping the blood sugars where they should be is the focus at the moment - don't want to...
