Anyone having problems with Apidra (pens) not lasting very long?

Yeah could do, just weird that I've never had the problem before (been using it for about ooh 5 years) I'll have have look into a frio wallet and see if that sorts it. Like you say though could it be cold too. Nothings ever clear cut is it!

Anyone having problems with Apidra (pens) not lasting very long?

Hi all, Just wondering if any Apidra pen users had noticed they they weren't lasting very long once out of the fridge (I'm talking 1.5 / 2 weeks tops)? I've noticed a few times that my blood levels start climbing after I've been using the same pen for 1.5 / 2 weeks (I keep it out of sunlight...

    Breakfasts. What can I eat?!

It's probably dawn phenomena (basically your body releases hormones to wake you up and these can spike your blood sugar) I've found that if I inject straight after getting up (as in before your feet hit the floor when getting out of bed) with an insulin to carb ratio of 2:1 (2 units of quick...

    Scary experience, no idea why!!

Hi to be honest if it's a one off it could be almost anything. The meal could have not been quite 20g, if you've done exercise over the last few days that might make you absorb your insulin quicker, if you were anxious you could drop. It might be to do with your honeymoon period as well although...

    Accu-Check Mobile problems

I'm a new user of this (was given one at a DAFNE course) and got on great with the cassette that came with it, got some cassettes on prescription (eventually!!) and got a tonne of E3 and E4 errors (on 2 meters - having been sent a spare by accu chek). I rang up accu-chek customer support and...

    DAFNE Course

Went on it about a month ago and couldn't recommend it more. Learnt a ton of stuff about diabetes management (you'd think I'd be fairly up on it after 33 years!). One thing I would say (and this might just be for our group) is to be prepared for your levels to be a bit haywire for the the week...

Does anyone find Lantus an issue?

Yep have a similar thing. Have my lantus at half 7 then have a dip at about 3am (an advantage of having a 10 month old is you don;t have to set an alarm to wake up for a night time check!) then start rising again before breakfast (06:30) levels are fairly stable then until between 3 and 4 when I...

    Mood swings and emotion :(

Hi Coral, just a thought but are the bad moods / thoughts normally at times of running continuously low? (as in a few days when you just keep going low?) I find that I often feel like that when I keep going low, or if my levels yoyo it can make me feel like that too....

    What an idiot!

Oops, better have a nice slow release Carb snack (porridge maybe) right before bed and set an alarm to do a check in the night. I once had my morning dose twice thinking I hadn't had it :-)

    Change in hypo awareness

Personally I'm not a big fan of blanket you are diabetic you should run at x targets. Ever since I was diagnosed I've felt well at around 7, too much either side and I start to feel unwell. My advice (and it is just my opinion) is to decide at what level you feel well and try to run around that...

    Change in hypo awareness

I'll have to have another look at it after the DAFNE course.. Cheers all :-)

    Change in hypo awareness

Hmm I'm often tempted to try low carb. Can't see how I wouldn't be hungry all the time / lose weight though (I'm actually trying to put some on!) that's probably a topic for another thread though!

    What App?

If you're on android I use OnTrack, it looks very similar to Diabetes Connect but you have the option to actually type the time in rather than use the spinner (which doesn't sound like much but is quite good if you're entering a lot of info after forgetting to add it in at the time!)

    Change in hypo awareness

Something that I'v always wondered about hypo sensing at 3 / 4; doesn't the DVLA say you're not supposed to drive below 5? They don't really seem compatible.. ( I know you have to check regularly when driving but you can't check continuously....)

    Post meal advice

I used to have similar issues around breakfast (huge spike followed by a drop) In the end I stopped having milk in my porridge and have soya instead (and less insulin) and that seems to have sorted it. Someone on another thread suggested lactose free milk if you can't stomach soya (it is a bit...

    Certain apples higher blood sugars

As a rough guide anything that says "Sweet" on the pack tends to send me up more (Jaz for example), I tend to stick to Braeburn, cox or golden delicious. I always have them at a time I'm having insulin though so you may find it a bit trickier...

Does anybody else get irritated and stressy?!

I think it might actually be the rate of blood glucose change that causes it rather than the actual levels. I've seen some posts on here comparing it to the glucose changes ladies experience that cause PMT (obviously not qualified to compare myself !)

Does anybody else get irritated and stressy?!

Yep, I get this too (diagnosed 30 odd years ago) I find it most often when levels are changing rapidly or if I've run low for any length of time. To be honest I've always felt well running at around 7 and if I manage to run fairly stable around there it tends to go away. Easier said than done...
