Can anyone remember blood test strips in the 80s

It was very close yes ☺. Mine was a bit more plastic looking same principle though ☺

Can anyone remember blood test strips in the 80s

Ooh yes I remember that. Not what I meant though, what I'm thinking of is like a plastic tube the needles that had an orange top on went in. It had a spring loaded plunger on the end that you pulled back and a button on the side that released the plunger and pushed the needle into your leg...

Can anyone remember blood test strips in the 80s

Geez that brings back memories!! (not necessarily good ones!!) While going down memory lane does anyone else remember those sprint powered things for hypodermics? I think they were supposed to encourage children to do their own injections but it actually hurt more! (can't find a picture...

    Hyperglycaemia and nightmares?

Has anyone suggested a pump for you? If you're running either high or low it might be that your basal is either too high or too low... Your DSN might be thinking if you run that high for 2 weeks (8, 9 or 10) you probably won't go low at all and that might bring some hypo awareness back?

    Life insurance

Hi Amanda, I used the insurance surgery when we bought our house: http://www.the-insurance-surgery.co.uk. Never found anyone who would do it cheaper.

A very interesting question about basal insulin (Lantus/Tresiba/Levemir).

I actually meant them moaning about the amount of strips you use. Don't think the most paranoid of doctors would worry about my hba1c [emoji3] Edit: don't know where the word liberal came from!

    Diabetes manners

Could it be that she's got a needle phobia (or knows someone else at the table that does) and didn;t want to just come out and say that? Like others have said though she can always look away!

A very interesting question about basal insulin (Lantus/Tresiba/Levemir).

I'd second this, I was up at about 10 checks per day as well. It gets your doctors off your back as well (although at a fairly high personal financial cost...)

    Really short Bolus duration

Yeah I'm starting to agree with you @azure. Hopefully I'll have better luck than you @richyb. I'm fairly sure I don't qualify under NICE but I might get in under the excessive injections, abnormal diet, and insulin sensitivity parts of the ABC thingy (technical term!). We shall see eh! Thanks...

    Really short Bolus duration

That sounds exactly like my experience as well, do you use Apidra or novarapid? To be honest it could be basal not being quite right, I don't have a lot of leeway to change it though if I want to run level ish over night. I've got a consultant appointment coming up, might ask about a pump, I...

    Really short Bolus duration

I'm on Apidra. Yeah I should do basal tests, trouble is I'm only on 7 or 8 units per day so any change has quite a bug effect... I have just upped it though so I'll see if that makes a difference!

    Really short Bolus duration

Quick question, does anyone else have a very short bolus duration? Since getting the libre I've noticed that if I inject a correction (or bolus for a meal) my levels seem to drop for about 2 hours (starting almost straight away) and then level out (or start going up)... For example night...

    Type 1 Caused by lifestyle?

Whilst lifestyle *may* have an effect (personally I think not). It's definitely not the case in the vast majority of people. I was diagnosed at 16 months (just after on of the childhood jabs) so I think the autoimmune idea is far more likely (it got stressed by the jab and that kicked the whole...

Bolus requirements increasing but no change to basal?

Really!? Never knew that. Don't think that would work for me either I'm on 8 basal and an average of 15 bolus. Don't think it's HP for me though [emoji3]

Confused high bgl not going down overnight with boluses

It couldn't be that you're coming to the end of your honeymoon period could it? You might start to need higher basal doses if you are...

Yup me too, get it much less often on Tresiba

Changing over to Levemir from Lantus

Hi Beckie, that sounds a lot like dawn phenomenon (that normally kicks in around 2) normally I'd try having more basal / have it later on in the evening (if possible). With you being pregnant though you're best off speaking to your DSN before changing anything, you could try giving them a ring...
