    Regular moderate exercise log

90 minutes is fantastic, briskly is impressive! Why don't you try to download an app like Strava? It is free to use, it is also simple. It doesn't need an internet connection as it works from mobile phone signals (it doesn't use your phone credits/minutes or your roaming data either, just the...

Travelling Abroad For The First Time Since Diagnosis

I travel Germany to Birmingham all the time and I just leave my insulin kit in its little case and nobody has ever asked me about it. I have sometimes put the insulin pens in the liquid bag and it is also ignored.

    Diabetic Hard Candy

I would watch out for anything labelled 'sugar free'. Sugar is only one content we need to look out for. I like the occasional Werthers Original Sugar Free (and they are exactly like the 'full sugar' version) and found they have carbs rather than sugar so although they are nice I really...

    Just Diagnosed. What Now?

I go with other recommendations on here... cut as many carbs as you can, don't wait for the GP or Diabetes nurse advice. Cit out as much bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, breakfast cereals, and anything made with either sugar or flour (or likely both!). Good things include Cheese, meat, fish, nuts...

    Stopping Metformin

Sorry but as someone else said in a reply to 'what have you eaten today', that's not low carb! Cut out all bread, pasta, rice & potatoes, breakfast cereals, and it goes without saying cut out everything that you know has sugar in it (sweets, chocolate, cakes, biscuits, pasties, pork pies, etc)...

    Completely Confused Mess About Diet

Wow, what can I say except sorry that you're having such a rubbish time right now. I'm type 2, I'm on insulin and metformin, I've lost 3 1/3 stone in weight in the last 2 years (now 13 1/2 stone and trying to loose some more). I've halved my meds and I feel great. My advice is to go as low carb...

T2 need to go on insulin.

Hi, I’m male, 64 yrs old and I’ve been on insulin for a little over 2 years. I had previously been diabetic on tablets (metformin) for about 15 years. Over that time my control slowly got worse until I moved to Germany where it also got worse, my highest HbA1c was 9 and so they said it was time...

    Call me skeptical....

What I think is important is that YOU know what has been happening and the actual weight loss that you have achieved is not that important, the weight loss (as has happened to me) is seen by the reduced inches around your waist. I've read lots of the other comments and I would say that it...

    First Review

Well done. I went on low carb and lost about 3 stone, and several inches off my waistline. I walk every day, up to 90 minutes and I'm sure that this has also made a difference. I'm not particularly sporty but walking football does appeal to me. Keep it up, it is worth all the effort.

    The effects of good friends...

I'm British but temporarily living in Germany (4.5 years so far). I'm type 2 and since I've been on Insulin (2 years) I've actively been seeking out products that are better for diabetics. I love bread of all sorts and colours, with seeds, without, with nuts, without, etc. and a while ago I...

    Is it possible??

I’m not sure that I like the word ‘reversed’. I thought that if you were diabetic that was it, for life. Yes it can be controlled, and it can be controlled by diet alone. If you revert to old eating habits then I think that the diabetes will return.

    Type 2 Gabapentin

I take Gabapentin 300mg (I think) and it has no affect on my BG readings at all. I take it for neuropathy pain in my feet and it does work for me.

    Newly diagnosed 4 weeks ago

Hi, I will go with all the other comments on here... I'm type 2 and have been for almost 20 years, I started on Insulin 2 years ago, plus still on metformin of course. I started low carb about a year ago, since then I've lost a ton of weight and halved all my meds. BP is currently a problem and...

    LCHF Works amazingly well

I started using mysugr before christmas, I find it useful to have my readings close at hand (but I prefer the old pen and paper stuff). Anyway the app told me my HbA1c was 5.3% and when I had my real blood test at the Dr's it came back as 5.0% so I was well pleased. If the app is overestimating...

Inspiration Needed - Type 2 - How did you manage to reverse your Diabetes?

I'm type 2 on Insulin and tablets. I don't know about 'reversing' my diabetes, but I do know that by going low carb I've lost a tone of weight, and I've halved my meds. My blood readings are nearly always great, my HbA1c readings are also fantastic. You did not mention exercise, this is very...

Nasty experience with pineapple and orange

You need to stick to quite small portions of pineapple, though I also read somewhere that an orange has far too much sugar for us diabetics. I frequently eat fruit; part of my breakfast will include a small portion of fruit made up of raspberries, blackberries, grapes, pineapple, 1/2 banana...

    Progress!

I found a great little app that you can record your BG readings, and if you do at least 3 readings a day, and record them in the app, keep it up for at least 7 days, then the app will give you an estimated HbA1c reading. I've been testing it since a little before Christmas and I've had 2 blood...

New to this and don't have a clue.

Hi, I'm sorry that you seem to be having trouble, you've come to a great place for advice. Know that you can do something about it... I have! I am type 11 and I've been on tablets for years, 2 years ago I also started injecting insulin 4 times a day. I have changed my diet dramatically and I...

Are Doctors really up to speed with T2?

My reply is going to be different from those above because I was first diagnosed in the UK in about 2000, I think my GP was quite good and we had a good Diabetes Nurse that I saw twice a year. I was prescribed metformin. Then I moved to Germany in 2013 and my 'House Dr' or 'Family Dr' was very...
