How Do They Diagnose What Type Of Diabetes You Have?

@XxTinkerxx the trouble with being diagnosed during covid is you really have been left to fend for yourself. Your bolus dose for meals takes time to get right. It changes throughout the day, dependent on fat content as well as carbs and if you exercise you might have to drop it considerably...

stuck for food ideas, medium carb

We do a lot of slow cook dishes which you can stuff with vegetables to bulk them out. How do beans impact your BG lebel? Chilli can be made in bulk and adding kidney and baked beans means it goes further. Tonight we had butternut squash, cabbage and chops - yummy. Tomorrow a higher carb day...

Being inactive can it affect levels alot?.

I struggle to get below 14 if I'm sitting at a desk but take a 10 min walk around the block and my BG levels plummet

Daughter hypos after dinner - advice please

I think by having pudding 2 hours after dinner you've got an 'insulin stacking' issue - so basically the insulin you injected for dinner is still working in her body at pudding time. Novorapid lasts around 5 hours in the body. It's probably worth adjusting the ratio for her dessert so she has...

Recognising the abscence isn't the issue - penalizing the child / family as a result is the issue

    School attendance

I've just had a quick Google and pre authorised medical appointments for known disabilities should be counter as authorised abscence. Schools should be making 'reasonable adjustments' to ensure disabled kids aren't discriminated against by authorised abscences. That was in a website for...

    peripheral neuropathy affecting motor function.

Do you supplement magnesium? Might be worth looking at. I have a horse with a muscle disease and high levels of magnesium are needed - appreciate you've got 2 legs not 4 but a lot of the research was done in humans [emoji5]

    Type 1 Newly diagnosed

For me it's a huge variable - in hot countries I dial right back to avoid horrendous hypos. Cold weather in the UK I'm injecting significantly more.

    Type 1 Newly diagnosed

Oh yes it can - when you're newly diagnosed they make it all sound straightforward. It isn't!

    How to increase weight?

I had 2 weeks of being misdiagnosed T2 whilst the weight fell off me, my hair fell out, my BG just read Hi and unknown to me my ketones rocketed. Thankfully Dr Google told me I had T1 so I got to A&E for the help I needed. With ketones you really should be getting medical help. I wouldn't worry...

I'm supposed to be an at risk patient but GP has run out - told me to try the pharmacy. So I'm on the pharmacy waiting list.

Struggling - mentally, physically, type 1diabetes, depression

You mention you had covid - it is being recognised that people are taking a long, long time to recover. Perhaps your blood sugars are all over the place because you still aren't well. Since my honeymoon period finished I've had widely fluctuating BG levels. Even carb counting and injecting 15...

Insulin Resistance or Lack of Insulin

I've always assumed insulin resistance gave a genetic advantage to our ancestors - but easy access to carbs and less physical work has made it a lot less advantageous these days.

Bolus ratio keeps changing, exhausted with it all!

It does stabilise but I have different ratios throughout the day. They change with exercise vs sitting in the office

    Newly diagnosed

I'm 3 years into diagnosis but even without Covid I did feel like that handed over the drugs and told me to crack on I have learnt to adjust my insulin levels depending on approx carb level, time of day, exercise levels etc. Keeping haribos to hand of sugars get a bit low. I'm also relatively...

    T1 or T2

I was diagnosed type 1 aged 43. Hba1c of 147 and 2 lots of antibody tests came back positive. Rapid weight loss, dodgy eye sight and I'd have drunk anything my thirst was so bad! Still nurses out there who think T1 is a disease of the young [emoji30]
