Taking insluin in public places like restaurants

Always at the table - in fact I find it harder when I'm at people's homes!!

    Lantus and night hypos.

I didn't ask about changing Lantus I demanded it! I basically phoned the DN and said I wanted an appointment to sort out an alternative.

Type one may be less risky than thought wrt C19

I've also given my OH direction not to leave my side - but with a no visitor rule right now I'd rather stay away!

Are you taking any specific COVID precautions?

I'm still risk assessed as too high risk for the office so working from home, avoiding crowds, avoiding people who think it's some form of mass government conspiracy and generally being sensible. I suspect social distancing and people spending time outdoors has kept the hospitalization rate...

Did I have diabetes a year before I was diagnosed?

I was 43 when I was diagnosed and I'd been to see GP 9 months earlier with arthritis type sptoms and feeling exhausted. Given how high my hba1c was when I was finally diagnosed I think a simple finger prick test on that first GP appointment would have shown me already diabetic.

    Insulin Resistance and weight gain

My fitbit has really helped stop my weight creeping up. My BG doesn't really respond to carb counting which is odd - it more seems to require a certain number of units around the same time each day.

    Granddaughter type I

Move the fruit bowl! My neice is the same age and loves the sweeter fruits. Perhaps fill it up with mini cheeses, carrot and cucumber sticks instead.

    Sudden pattern change

Are you sleeping ok? I've had some odd numbers when I've been tired.

    Issues with Lantus split

I was on lantus but got overnight lows so was changed to Tresiba which has been great. All my aching muscle problems disappeared too which seems to be a less discussed side effect of lantus. I didn't actually ask the DN so much as say 'lantus is causing me problems I need an appointment to...

    Appointments during Covid-19

My T1 diabetes consultant appointments have all been cancelled (Stoke Mandeville)

    Advice on rapid-acting insulin.

I'm LADA and was in a trial where they measured my insulin (c-peptide) output over a few hours after a measured amount of glucose. My pancreas is still producing some insulin but it has a VERY delayed response. For my body that means by the time I have my evening meal my pancreas has decided to...

Should I push for insulin to preserve remaining beta cells

You need a referral to hospital so they can get you on insulin. LADA is really T1 by a different name!

    Hypoglycaemia

Haribos for me. Not bothered about nutrition when I get that sinking feeling!

Calories in vs. Calories out is apparently scientific fact!

Ate loads! I was stuffing myself and thinking running around after 2 horses must be using up a HUGE amount of energy. It was summer and hot so I was drinking cans of pop too (which I don't normally do). Oddly thirsty, but hey it was 28 degrees [emoji30]

Confused, Why my diabetes team won't take me off of insulin

I was diagnosed LADA T1 when I was 43. About a month after I first started on insulin my pancreas woke up and i had to drop my insulin dosages dramatically. Apparently that's quite common and seems to be some form of reaction to giving the beta cells a break by injecting insukin. Sadly didn't...

    Hypo

Well not a non diabetic, but its a different story when many of us have injected insulin floating around confusing our endocrine system. My Sister in law's cousin died from an overnight diabetic hypo the same month I was diagnosed T1. She couldn't bring herself to mention what he died of for...

    new to it all

I was 43 and after a bit of GP misdiagnosis (2 weeks - they nearly killed me!) I was sent to A&E & put on insulin. Dramatic weight loss and ketones the T1 giveaway really.

Don’t you just hate it when people think diabetes is easy

I have to confess I find my mum's attitude towards me being T1 really annoying! It's lucky I was diagnosed in my 40s because I dress to think how she would have coped if it has been diagnosed in childhood. I know some T1s can eat anything, inject and be ok - I can't. Visiting is hard because...

    My GPS advice!

I was just thinking when I read the OP that I flipping hope they are accurate given I use them to work out my insulin dosage, see if I'm legal to drive, safe to go to sleep.....
