    struggling

Lantus used to send me low overnight and I constantly had aches and pains. Switched to Tresiba and it holds me steady and that nasty aching from head to toe sensation went within 3 days I'd ask to change from Lantus and see if it helps

    Covid vaccine

I'm fully vaccinated with 2 Pfizer jabs. First no issues apart from a slightly sore arm. The second was a real stab (felt like he wanted to inject me all the way through my arm) so a very sore arm for a few days and I felt a bit ropey - but no worse than a flu jab. I also had a really heavy...

    Misdiagnosis ?

@nolanjoe92 Can you get hold of some ketone testing strips? I have a meter, but I think you can buy urine dipsticks in a chemist. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you came back as LADA - adult onset type 1 from what you've said. Mainly because your story is very similar to mine, but I ended up...

How do you cope with exercise?

Struggling with exercise has been the most frustrating part of my diagnosis really. I find it better first thing in the morning and I take minimal Novorapid on board then. I found I needed 'a bit' because I need to eat first to have some energy and without any on board my BG got too high and I...

Type 2 I Need to GAIN weight

I got a fitbit to monitor exactly how many calories I was using and then tracked what I was eating for a week. I was generally eating 200 less calories a day than I was using. I'd lost a tonne of weight pre diagnosis (1.5 stones) and the fitbit showed why I was struggling to put it back on...

    Hypos at work

Firstly its worth checking your background insulin isn't too high. If you are constantly dropping low at work even without Novorapid then it probably is too much levimer. I have a very active morning and start with just 1 unit of novorapid for my cereal based breakfast and I also carry a pretty...

COVID vaccine and extremely high blood sugars

2nd Pfizer jab last Friday. Hypos all weekend and felt shattered through to Tuesday. All back to normal now though.

Officially migrated from the T2 crew to the T1 crew

A detailed diary is essential when you first start on insulin. Food (exact portions inc weight), time of day, BG before you eat and 2 hours after, insulin dosage etc. I have a very different insulin to carb ratio at breakfast than dinner for instance. If i am planning on exercising then I need...

    Additional anti diabetics or insulin

I'm T1 and hormones can send my BG sky high every month so I wonder if that's part of your issue. Personally I'd see the diabetes team and discuss if insulin could help. Can they order a blood test to see how much insulin you are stop producing?

Pfizer vaccine - low blood glucose?

For about 4 days after the Pfizer jab I had hypos at unexpected times - woke up really low which is unlike me. Pulled back on insulin obviously but I'm on Tresiba which isn't that quick to react. Second jab soon so will be interesting to see what hapoens

    High Hb1ac but normal fasting

Insulin deficient in 2017 probably means more insulin deficient in 2021. She really needs a new c-peptide test because she's stressing her pancreas if it can't produce the insulin her body needs.

    Type 2 A Mystery

Itching was one of my signs of undiagnosed diabetes - I was convinced I was allergic to washing powder. My BG just read Hi on the monitor. It's damage to blood vessels that's causing it. You must, must get those levels down. You might feel woozy below 10 but that's just because your body has...

    Pfizer Jab causing Insulin Resistance?

I had my first Pfizer dose at the end of Feb and was hugely insulin sensitive for a week - hypo upon hypo even dropping dosages down. No idea if the 2nd dose will do the same but my neighbour has been in hospital since Jan with covid so I'm definitely having the jab

    Easier and trickier carbs

Bread is my nemesis - brown or white - spikes me badly. Not too bad with potatoes or rice but I have to split my dose for pasta

The GP messed up a prescription change

My best was when they removed the lancets from my prescription. GP couldn't seem to sort it so the hospital sent them details to add to the prescription. 4 weeks later after numerous phone calls I was told it was sorted and i should collect from the pharmacy. They had a box of Lantus waiting...

How long could someone who is on insulin survive without any?

My consultant told me that before injectable insulin was an option they would put children on a very low sugar diet - but they'd still waste away and die. How quickly depends on how much insulin your body is still producing. Why aren't you taking it?

    Covid and Diabetes

You sound like you're still suffering the after effects of covid. I think your GP needs to sign you off for at least April and then reassess. I think you'll have to just keep an eye on your medication needs. You may need less as your body heals but that's just going to take time. I really hope...

IF this watch glucose tech is for real what happens to £50 Libre sensors

I'd use it alongside finger prices - libre glue and i don't get on well

    Newly diagnosed type 1 diabetic

Welcome Nick - it's a big shock but you'll soon find it becomes a way of life. If you're not sure if you've taken your insulin then check your BG levels after an hour and if they are high take a correction dose. Did your diabetes team advise you on correction doses? We've all been in that...
