    Limitations from type1.

I was diagnosed in my 40s and i do think it's stopped me doing some things. I used to travel a lot - wild camping, hiring horses to go to remote places etc. Even leaving aside the effort in trying to keep insulin cool in those kind of places the heat causes my blood sugars to be really...

    Slimming World and Type 1

I've got some slimming world recipe books off a friend and i don't think they are hugely diabetic friendly. For me losing weight as a T1 diagnosed in her 40s has been less about calories and more about carbs. Replacing bread and pasta has made a huge difference.

    Ashamed.

Chronic long term conditions are known to cause mental health issues - when there's just no holiday from something it becomes exhausting. Your DN should appreciate that because there is mental health support for T1ds. Whether or not it's available in the covid world is a different matter...

COVID vaccine and extremely high blood sugars

I had Pfizer and no major reactions apart from hypos at times of the day I wouldn't normally be at risk. Sore arm for 24 hours but nurofen helped. Astra Zeneca does seem to be raising BG more

    Covid vaccine

I did chase my GP. ....

How do others help with hypos?

My mum's friend is in her late 70s and has had T1 since a child. Try and rub honey or jam on their gums is her emergency treatment (after dialling for an ambulance)

Shielding letter - all Type 1s?

Not had one yet and I'm 47 today [emoji4]

    covid/long covid

My mother in law has a history of extreme allergic reactions but was allowed the Astra zeneca one provided she stayed for 15 mins afterwards in case of reaction. She was fine.

Auto immune disease linked to type I

Have they done the easy stuff like blood tests for vitamin D and B12?

    Shielding letters and vaccines

My GP seems to be taking the same 'ignore and make it someone else's problem' approach

    Covid vaccine

I'm in Buckinghamshire and I've seen people under the age of 60 with no health issues be vaccinated at our local centre. I've left a message with my GP and tried 119 (who agreed I should be able to get an appointment but they were unable to book it). Being at the mercy of my GP's admin doesn't...

    Blood sugar treatment takes long

My DN suggested that 10 mins after taking the sugar hit to eat something carby - a biscuit or 2. Helps stop the rollercoaster of a bad hypo

    Carbohydrate enjoyment

I'm type 1 but matching insulin to carbs to avoid big spikes followed by big drops is stressful. Lots of carbs just makes me feel hungover - so I don't these days. I miss pasta!

    Type 1 covid vaccine.

My GP surgery was useless organizing flu jabs so I won't hold my breath with them

    Diabetic in police custody

Incidentally I had a medical alert bracelet on when I visited a specialist in London. The specialist spotted it and told me a story of one of their patients who had nearly died in custody. Arrested for anti social behaviour , processed and put in a cell. Thought to be asleep until they didn't...

Has any one else tested positive for ketones ( along with high blood sugar) but blood wasn’t

I'm another who had high ketones (6) on diagnosis with BG just reading as Hi and a hba1c of 148 - but wasn't in full blown DKA Much to the medical team's surprise actually. The junior doctor who came belting out to reception when my blood results came through just kept telling me he'd had...

Wedding Day Management - Type 1

For one day I'd run slightly high. Check bloods just before it all kicks off (stash of jelly babies in car and perhaps with a bridesmaid?) I wouldn't normally recommend checking in the loo but it's peace and quiet and you're less likely to get drops on your dress with a basin and tissues...

    Covid vaccine records (dis)organisation

They are supposed to input the vaccination on a database with the person's NHS number. Knowing how well IT works in the NHS I'm not at all surprised by this!!!

Systematic review and meta-analysis of low carb diets in BMJ

I wonder whether the body ends up with a level of dependency on the injectable insulin??

    17 month old daughter T1

I was 43 when I was diagnosed so I can't help with treating a tiny tot - but I will send virtual hugs your way because I know how much of a shock this diagnosis will have been xx
