    HbA1c result

I found this forum in March last year after searching for people using the freestyle libre. My HbA1c at that time was 71 and the doctor gave me three months to improve it or go onto Ozempic. I self funded the libre, read all the advice I could on here, went low carb. Not always easy, and I’m...

    Diabetic Diarrhoea

I am on slow release Metformin and still get diarrhoea on low carb diet. It has been so bad that I choose to reduce my Metformin , but I would of course recommend checking with your go before following my example.

    Newly diagnosed looking for advice

I get lower carb wraps from sainsburys in the free from section. they are called Bfree. 4g carbs per wrap and £3 per pack if 4. there is also an online company called lo dough which make an even lower calorie wrap, more expensive but good as a pizza base. They make a low carb vanilla sponge...

    Newly diagnosed looking for advice

Home cooking doesn’t have to mean entirely different meals. For example a roast dinner I cook for all of us but I have fewer potatoes, carrots, parsnips, and more green veg. The meat is fine. chicken breast, stuff with cheese wrap in bacon, serve with above ground veg for me, add potatoes for...

    Newly diagnosed looking for advice

How many carbs? For me that’s not a straightforward question. I try to aim for 50g max per day. But testing has told me that not all carbs are the same, and even the same carbs can cause different spikes at different times of the day. For example I can tolerate no more than about 5G carbs...

    Time to make a change

Welcome, and well done for finding this site. I can say low carb definitely works for me. I’m not always perfect at following it, have my lapses, times when it’s hard to find the right things to eat, but even with those times factored in it’s made a massive difference to my numbers. take the...

What info to put on a medical alert bracelet?

I also have a medic alert bracelet it says diabetes type 2, lymphodema left arm, no IV or BP on left arm. Every year they ask me if any changes are necessary. Their 24 hour phone number is also on it and they can give any medic calling details of my conditions and my doctors contact details and...

From memory the metformin batches which were recalled were liquid Metformin not tablets, and were in the USA.

    Freestyle Libre 2

I’ve been self funding since the end of March. It’s the only thing that has ever helped me reduce my blood sugars and HbA1c. You can see the difference in my signature, 9 years of readings in the 60s and 70s, and with the libre I reduced it immediately to 47. it convinced me that the things the...

Who Says You Can’t have a Low Carb Christmas!

I did ok yesterday. A slice of good bread lunchtime was my biggest vice causing the spike you can see here, the Christmas pudding at around 7.30 didn’t cause a real spike but did cause my sugars to run higher than usual overnight.

    Hb1Ac please explain NICE guidelines

I most definitely am diabetic, have been so for 10 1/2 years with medication gradually increasing until I’m on 3 tablets, and HbA1c increasing (see my signature below)…….until I started low carb ing early this year followed by HbA1c of 47. I’ve never discussed a target with any medical...

    Upset

It sounds as if you have room to change things then and get a better result in 6 months time. I’d start by reducing the carbs, and increasing protein and fats. Try and think of a weeks worth of meals you like, reduce carbs by swapping out potatoes, rice, pasta. Replace with more veg (whatever...

    Upset

I can understand why you would feel fed up. can you give us an idea what treatment you are on, and your average weekly diet? Do you test your blood sugars or wear a libre? Maybe someone might spot something which would help.
