I remember you saying you like tuna. Tuna mixed with mayonnaise and eaten with salad makes a nice quick lunch.

Hi Julie, You need to be looking at the number of carbs in a packet. Not just the sugar. In our bodies the carbs are converted to sugar. Again to see if they are ok for you you can test your blood sugar before you eat then 2 hours later. Usually things like meat, fish, cheese, eggs, green...

Are Bananas bad for a type two diabetic?

It’s a good rule to follow to see how any food affects you.

Are Bananas bad for a type two diabetic?

If you want to see how half a banana affects you test your blood sugar before you eat it, then test again two hours later. Ideally you want to see a rise of no more than 2 after 2 hours. Does that make sense?

Are Bananas bad for a type two diabetic?

Hi Julie, 5 grapes have about 3gms of carbs, half a medium apple about 6gms carbs, and half a medium banana between 10 and 11pms of carbs. As a type 2 eating half a banana as a snack would raise my own blood sugar too much. Do you have a meter to test your blood sugar?

This is one alternative. There are recipes too https://pandapantry.co/?fbclid=IwY2xjawNk0rVleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETF4eHVJUGQ2cERaRlAxSEpGAR7OF3d43XPzplBTIn02CPtWqHMDPFvu7s0QXzULwUunUOcGHntG6K2RcrQDdA_aem_jLU7zxZRNYRsKhSw6VwTDw Or as @lovinglife says you can use almond flour. It’s reasonably...

Unfortunately for many diabetics wholemeal flour raises blood sugar in the same way as white flour. If your husband likes to cook it is possible to buy low carb flour. I can add a link if he is interested.

Cherries and mango are high in sugar. It is likely the flour in the crumble topping might raise your blood sugar as well. Replacing the fruit with raspberries would be a good start.

Hi I’m julieclarke I’ve joined to find out more about T2 diabetes

Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries are all usually fine. Small amounts of blueberries should be ok too. One green grape will not weigh 22 grams. More like 4 grams so 0.6gms sugar according to the app nutracheck. But of course no one eats just one grape. 10 grapes will be about gms. Red...

I can’t. It still raises my blood sugar.

    Zero-carb beer

But Gliclazide does increase insulin production and therefore can cause hypoglycaemia.

    Going thru all the tests

Alcohol can lower blood sugar. Only real way to find out its impact on you is to try one pint and see. But make sure you have fast acting glucose and carbs to hand to raise your blood sugar if necessary. When I’m out and about I find fruit pastilles easy to carry, and for slower carbs packs of...

I stopped eating bananas 14 years ago when I saw the effect they had on my blood sugar. But I used to love them and am really craving one now.

Hello im new to the Forum

All normal bread will send my sugar sky high. It doesn’t matter if it’s white, brown, wholemeal, seeded etc etc etc. It is possible to buy low carb bread on line, although it is expensive. No need to buy low fat cheese for your blood sugar, full fat is fine.

Dodgy data using FreeStyle Libre 2+?

They are reasonably accurate for me. Standard advice is to check with a blood test before acting on a high or low alarm. If yours is that far out I would call Abbott or fill in their online form. They will usually replace a faulty s nor.

Type 2 ‘Normal’ blood glucose feels awful

Yes, I agree these are false lows. Your body will get used to being lower after a while and you will start to feel better. Just one other point. As you are on Gliclazide which can cause true lows your GP should prescribe you a meter and testing strips now. The official advice is to test your...
