Prescribed Metformin but wondering I can do this on diet alone

New sensor seems to be behaving a lot better. I'm staying in range (which I have decided for myself is 4.0 to 8.5) pretty much 99% of the time as long as one don't eat anything stupid. I would say the lows are more worrying than the highs, and I wonder what the occasional 3.8 (such as the one I...

    Finding love

I'm open about it with pretty much anyone. I've lived with fat shaming since I was about 5 years old, so diabetes shaming as an extension of fat shaming is like water off a duck's back. Having flounced out of a number of other closets, I consider someone's reaction to the big reveal to be a...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

7.1 at 9am according to the digital vampire. Libre broadly concurs with 7.4.

6.2 on Stabby. New Libre sensor has me higher at 7.4 but seems to be a lot more sensible than the last one, without the crazy highs even in the first few hours of wearing, and no crazy lows so far.

My little digital vampire said 6.8 at 8:30. As for the Libre, I swapped sensors this morning. See attached. That's after 2 slices of Hi-Lo toast that gave me no rise at all (6.8 before and 2 hours after) on blood.

6.4 at 8:45am according to Stabby. 4.6 if I'm mad enough to believe this Libre. Eric Morecambe was playing all of the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order. I seem to have something similar going on here.

7 at 8:30am by Mr Stabby. 4.9 on Libre, which is now refusing to scan a lot of the time.

    Some bad news

Lots of good advice so far, but I just wanted to add: don't blame yourself. You played Russian Roulette with your genetics, as we all do, and you got the bullet. Someone who isn't predisposed to diabetes can eat as much junk as they like. They'll keep piling on weight, but they'll never develop...

Working away from home - what to eat?

It's a franchise (or at least the Expresses are, I'm not sure about the other IHG brands) so while the branding and decor tends to be consistent, they're run by various different companies. There are subtle differences in the way they operate. Some don't need my credit card on check-in because...

Working away from home - what to eat?

The usual Holiday Inn Express breakfast would be perfect. Put whatever you want on a plate, with bacon, sausage and scrambled egg all available. Take as much as you want, and go back as many times as you like. Due to Covid-19, they've swapped this for ready made and wrapped bacon on a bun, or...

9am: GlucoRx-Q random number generator told me 7.2, followed by 6.5 when I didn't believe it. Libre very random number generator is saying 4.8, but is at least back to giving me readings again. I'm beginning to understand why GP's tend to discourage home testing.

Working away from home - what to eat?

Another vote for Nandos. The butterfly chicken has practically no carbohydrate. I asked similar questions when I first joined (since I'm on the road a lot) and the ability to customise McDonalds meals has proven to be an excellent tip. Triple cheeseburger, delete the bun (and in my case, the...

Type 2 Asking for a friend... phnarr phnarr

I still eat home made bolognaise. I do a larger portion, with no pasta, but could probably get away with including a small amount of pasta. As carby foods go, pasta isn't the worst. I'd suggest experimenting to see what you can get away with. I don't seem to spike too badly if I don't exceed...

Oops! A last minute edit that I threw in without thinking about it. I should have made it clear I was talking about age rather than HbA1c levels. While HbA1c isn't definitive, it's good enough for the medical profession to use it as their main diagnosis tool. I'd say that if you can keep it in...

Prescribed Metformin but wondering I can do this on diet alone

New sensor on the way, with a prepaid envelope to return the old one. Though told that unless I buy directly from them, future ones might not have the same cover. £54 from Amazon, though I can claim around £10 VAT back if I can be bothered. £48 ex VAT to buy direct. It's probably worth the extra...

Type 2 Asking for a friend... phnarr phnarr

Purely as maths, I'd be inclined to look at it as putting a hold on the countdown for a ticking time bomb. Every day you're good, and keep yourself mostly in pre-diabetic to non-diabetic ranges, that clock stays stopped, and you bought yourself another day of your life before complications set...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

7.1 at 7am on GlucoRx-Q after waking at 4am and not getting back to sleep. Libre all over the place, after seeming to have settled down. That gave me a 4.1 at the same time, but it's been logging almost a continuous false hypo since yesterday evening, so 4.1 is actually a high reading.

Prescribed Metformin but wondering I can do this on diet alone

It's now reading 'LO' rather than giving any figure at all. I've recently adjusted the band of the protector I had on it, which may have been a bit snug. I'm going to let it breathe for a while and then test again, but if it still isn't making sense, I'll contact them in the morning.

And it's all gone Pete Tong. Getting false hypo readings during the day as well, now. That last read of 2.7 is 8.5 according to my meter. Less than an hour after eating, so I'd expect it to be around this level. Which is a shame, because I've had a couple of days of staying almost flawlessly...

Prescribed Metformin but wondering I can do this on diet alone

I should have been clearer. Yes, it was 2.4 on the Libre. I assumed it was a misread, and didn't bother to do a blood test. But that's 4 hours spent below 4.0 according to the Libre, and while I tend to sleep on my side, I alternate between them throughout the night.
