    Snacking and insulin

Try and get yourself onto a DAFNE course ASAP. You will learn much more that the carb counting course you've just been on. When you do activities etc, alter the meal ratio before the activity so that you inject less insulin. It seems that you are very resistant to insulin....like me. Any...

Is it just me that feels better running at around 7?

Just aim for the mmol which gives you the 'best' feelings. At least DAFNE has shown you how to manage your diabetes. I did DAFNE in Sept 2013 after struggling with the treatment at my local hospital and was referred to Addenbrookes who put me through DAFNE soon after my treatment was restarted...

Insulin load index / most ketogenic foods

Maybe this is why I have to allow approx 8 carb for an egg when I do my carb count calculations...protien..I love eggs and bacon etc but without allowing for the eggs my BSs spike.

Does anyone have severe mood swing could it poss be Lantus causing the mood changes

I was on lantus and levemir for the first 3 years after being diagnosed. Terrible side effects e.g. drugged up feelings, extreme tiredness, walking became a shuffle but not pains in legs or arms or mood swings. Consultant REFUSED to believe that lantus or levemir was the problem even after I...

Using low carb diet and sugar is still high, how do I get it lower?

I'm type 1 so use quick and long lasting insulins and I also take 6 X 500mg metformin SR tablets , 2 at each meal plus quick acting insulin. I see you only take long lasting insulin (lantus) so it might be time to replace tablets with quick and long lasting insulin regime.....ONLY a thought...

    Headaches

Just be careful taking statins. I was put on simvastatin and after 2 tablets I had really bad headache and became really 'sick'. Surgery then tried another statin and I became worst. Locum doc took me off statins after having to give me very strong tablets to get rid of extreme headaches...

    Atrocious dismissal of eye symptoms.

I'm glad the proceedure wasn't too bad. I hope mine will be 'nice' as well on 26th June. Looking forward to go and get some new specs after the eye has healed up.

    Atrocious dismissal of eye symptoms.

I too have a large floater in my right eye caused by PVD about 2 years ago. After a lot of flaffing about by the local hospital I'm due to have the floater and remaining fluid in the right eye sucked out and refilled .. The op is scheduled for the end of June. ...thankfully as I've been unable...

testing blood, best time for this

Quite true catinahat, the DAFNE 4 hour recommendation is for type 1 diabetics. It's different for type 2's just using the standard tablets but in the long run everyone's body will aborb insulin or tablets at different rates so Lynne it's use what ever is best for YOU. I'm type 1 and use...

    Struggling to cope

Hi Shabso, I was diagnosed when I was 60 years old and GP told me that I was type 2 but within 2 weeks I ended up in hospital and put immediately onto insulin...NO problems with that as my youngest daughter was only 9 when she was diagnosed type 1 so I knew what to expect. The family just...

testing blood, best time for this

DAFNE recommends that we test 4 hours after a meal not 2 hours. The standard 2 hours testing is meant to produce a reading of approx 2mmols higher than the reading before the meal. However, we all absorb insulin at diffenent rates and many of us, me included, have a much higher reading than...

    Help

Sorry to hear about your pain and lack of treatment. Like other posters has said you should be referred to your hospital's diabetes team to be assessed properly. What is you HBA1c and what BSs do you get when you test. What insulins are you using as perhapd one of the insulins don't agree...

    Told to raise HbA1c

This is where most type 2 folk are left in the dark not being prescribed meters. Too much assumptions by medics. It is stupid telling people to RAISE their HBA1c's on an assumption.

    Insulin and metformin

Hi, I'm type 1 and use Apidra and 2 X 500mg metformin SR tablets at each meal. I'm very insulin resistant and the tablets help keep my BSs down without increasing my carb/insulin ratio. I found the tablets take a few days to be absorbed into your system.

    Tooth Extraction And Being Diabetic

It was NO different to NOT being diabetic. My dentist knows that I'm type 1.

    Diabetes link to Statins

Some folk get extremely 'sick' even taking 1 or 2 tablets. Statins made me so ill/sick I spent 2 days in bed and terrible headache. Surgery tried another statin which was worst. I was given simvastatin then another statin, so now I will never take any form of statin.

    So worried about my husband.

Don't know if your husband has done any courses but get his to ask his GP/Diabetes nurse about doing the DAFNE course .. It's much more than just carb counting. I did the course in Sept 2013 it's great and helped bring down my HBA1c with the info I learnt.

How do you record your blood sugar results?

Having done the DAFNE Course I use their Blood Glucose Monitoring Diary which I keep with my insulins pens etc, it's always to hand. The Dafne people also e-mailed a spreadsheet which shows daily readings etc and the BSs reading line changes colour for readings below 4 mmols, 4-8 mmols 8mmols...
