Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Hi Ian, you've done a lot of testing etc which is excellent. Have you been tested for Vit D deficiency? I'm type 1 and had mine checked after reading that many diabetics have low Vit D without ever knowing. I now take Adcal-D3 Dissolve tablets. I'm taking novorapid, insulatard and Metformin...

What is so wrong with Mashed Potato ???

I too love masked potatoes and the carbs per 100grams isn't much different from boiled potatoes. I have no spikes but we'll all different. I only test after 4 hours not 2 hours. My novorapid is active up to approx 4 hours.

Change in Carb to Insulin Ratio

Hi ShellyC23, it's really frustrating trying to get your ratios right. I use units per grams of carbs as I find this more accurate instead og using units per CPs. I find the same happens with some meals and I end up high so I've learnt to use a different ratio(give myself a bit more insulin...

    Ratio advice

Hi Hale, Every course we go on even though it's ment to be DAFNE we're given DIFFERENT INFO. I went to ADDENBROOKES in Cambridge for my DAFNE but I carb counted about 1 1/2 years when I first used novorapid...under my ex diabetes team. I use units per grams of carbs instead of units per CPs...

    Ratio advice

Hi, I personally wouldn't bother with a 2 hour test unless you feel unwell or it's for dvla driving reasons. You sound like you have done dafne so if your 4 hour test Is high and if your before meal bs was ok then increase the quick acting by 10 per cent at your next lunch. Remember that on...

DAFNE experience - the good and the bad!

Hi smidge, I completed the DAFNE course at Addenbrookes in September 2013 and although I may not have agreed everything said on the course, overall the info I gained has helped me manage my diabetes so much better. My HBA1c has improved from 8.9% to 7.6% in 3 months of attending the course. I...

    Frustrated!

Hi ALL, Please do not correct after 2 hours of eating a meal...it only a guide. For a lot of diabetes folk quick acting insulins will take up to 4 hours to fully work. I use novorapid and carb count. Recently completed DAFNE and it teaches you so much more about managing your diabetes and NOT...

    help with diabetes

Hi nat, Ask your GP if they could refer to a hospital with a diabetes team. I don't know what your blood glucose readings are but with your other ills I assume that the readings could be HIGH since you aren't taking your insulin on a regular basis. Problems with breakfast and tiredness

Hi Paul, I am type 1 diabetic who carb count my meals. As others have said you seem to be having a low amount of carbs for your meals for what your body require. I am assuming that you inject for all your meals and that you are using fact acting insulin like novorapid. If you are you can...

Hi, For most type 1s the DAFNE can be a a real eye opener. It was for me and my control and general health is so much better. I now feel happier in managing my diabetes and can usually work out what's happening if I do go a bit high. Most of the time my day readings are in single figures and...

Hi Twinks, Its a course that all type 1 should go on, also all diabetes teams as well. Mind you, I am speaking as a 64 year old who was diagnosed 4 years ago and went through 4 years of hell for most of that time. Finally got on a DAFNE course 2 months ago and a new hospital looking after my...

    Can't control Blood Sugar Levels

Hi Mrs of type 1, I strongly agree that you ask your GP or diabetes team to get on a DAFNE course ASAP. I've recently been on a course myself and after 4 years suffering what I learnt has brought my BGs 'almost' always in single figures throughout the day. I now follow DAFNE systems and it has...

4 Hypos in one day - We just keep shovelling Carbs

Hi, Get your DSN or dietician to rework your carb ratios. My daughter 21year old, was told by her DSN to use 1:2 ratio....That nearly 'killed' her. Hypos soon after meals. 1 unit novorapid for 2 carbs...mad. My daughter queried the ratio and she was told to carry on. She no longer sees...
