Teenage son won't do his insulin

Exactly, education is key, but not always necessarily from the people around you. Sometimes it just takes complete outsider to knock some sense into you, hence joining facebook groups or reading the books is key.

Teenage son won't do his insulin

I was the same, I used to even make up numbers for my diary to show at my appointments at the clinic. Yes I was stupid, but I went through that stage. I don't think I would ever be so stupid knowing what I know now. Maybe try and get him to learn more about diabetes management, or as I did, get...

    Humid weather affecting me?

As above, in hotter climates or temperatures, blood sugars usually drop faster than slower. As well as the reason above, there's manu reasons for this, including higher temperatures lowering viscosity of fluid (blood). Therefore there is less resistance to flow and circulation maybe a little...

Teenage son won't do his insulin

Tbh, I was the same through my teenage years. Not that I didn't want to take any insulin, but looking after my diabetes wasn't my main priority. I would generally run high and not test my bloods, just to be 'normal'. But as I got a bit older and wiser, I knew I couldn't be 'normal' if I wasn't...

    Pregnant and retinopathy

I don't have any experience, but recall Dr Bernstein talking about this. Maybe worth finding his book online if you don't have it, or watching his videos? Hopefully somebody here can help soon.

Should I be storing "in-use" NovoRapid in the fridge in this hot weather?

I use a frio bag (its recommended to keep under 30 degrees), especially out of direct sunlight, you can put it in the fridge, but manufacturer doesn't recommend as apparently can cause erratic behavior. Although I haven't had a problem when storing in fridge once opened.

Maximum Blood Sugar for someone without diabetes?

You have made a range of remarks in this, so I've felt the need to break them down and respond. Yes, everyone is different. But you only feel that way because your body has adjusted to your levels being relatively high, that doesn’t mean that is normal. You may get false hypo symptoms from...

Maximum Blood Sugar for someone without diabetes?

Diagnosing somebody at 11.1 doesn't mean that, 11.2 or lower is normal, that's their threshold. If a non-diabetic had a random level of above even 9 I can near enough guarantee they would reassess the person for potential diabetes. I do have type 1 diabetes, and if my levels spike more than 10...

Maximum Blood Sugar for someone without diabetes?

Well the way I saw it was the absolute maximum at any point of the day, meaning a normal day. If a non-diabetic was seeing 11 mmol everyday that should ring alarm bells. If they see it once a month maybe not so.

Maximum Blood Sugar for someone without diabetes?

Fair enough. Its not we don't trust anything but we need to know what the recommendations are based upon, and at the moment they are advising on standards that are just not suitable, and yes they do also want to cover their own backs so tend to err on the side of caution,

Maximum Blood Sugar for someone without diabetes?

That doesn't mean its correct. They also push high carb, high average a1c's and high average glucose levels. I've not seen any studies that say the majority of healthy individuals have post meal spikes of 11, there will be rare cases where people do, but that's more likely they are border-line...

Where did you get your figures from? 10-11 post meal is not completely fine or normal.

How to gain weight without carbs

Yes there's always a lot of conflicting info. But Dr Berg also comments on these "studies" that don't have sufficient control measures for the assessments. He has 4 eggs a day himself and has for over 30 years, he doesn't believe the risks are there for people without preexisting conditions.

I haven't seen my BG in single figures in a week now... basal or bolus issue?

Not sure if you know, but can you get Tresiba in cartridges, similar to Novo/Fiasp for the reusable pens? I want to switch but cant stand the tresiba disposable pens, they are just too big.

Maximum Blood Sugar for someone without diabetes?

According to Dr Bernstein, normalized glucose levels are 83 mg/dL (~4.6 mmol/L). So essentially that's an average glucose levels all the time of 4.6 mmol/L. Non-diabetics shouldn't peak above 7.7 at any time I believe.

    Type 1 Freestyle Libre

You add the monitor reading, if its too far from the sensor reading in the app it will calibrate automatically. You don't have to do anything apart from put the readings in.

    Type 1 Freestyle Libre

Well its basically a fudge factor applied to a pre-set correlation that adjusts that correlation to fit what the meter is reading. In glimp you take a reading from meter and add it into the glucose reading section...

    Smartchwatch as standalone reader

Ah ok, quite like Glimp. Only reason I stuck with it is because all my data is stored in Glimp. Can this be transferred to Xdrip, or do I need to start from scratch? Also not sure whether you know or not, but is it as accurate once calibrated? As Glimp is very good for me once Ive calibrated it.

    Smartchwatch as standalone reader

Hi All, Just wanted to know if anyone knew how to use their smartwatch as a standalone reader. I have the libre with miaomiao and use GLIMP. At the moment I have glucose levels on my watch but that's only when the phone is nearby, i.e using the connection from phone and miao miao to display on...
