Type 1 T1 Diabetics CAN eat sugar

Think this thread is dragging on, I thought I gave a good summary before. To summarize: Can type 1 diabetics eat sugar? Yes Is it ideal? No Is eating x amount of carbs the same regardless of the food? No, this depends on the glycemic index.

Type 1 T1 Diabetics CAN eat sugar

There is some truth to we can eat whatever we want and inject for it, but its not as simple as that. For a start, type 1's use insulin, depending on the type you use it has a certain profile (e.g. delivery over 3-5 hours, peak at 1.5 hours etc). This profile does not match all foods, especially...

    Newly Diagnosed

It does have an effect, I don't know all the reasons behind it tbh, as I've not researched it in that much detail. Was aware of it occurring. In regards to BP s well, you may not see changes from overall readings, but small changes can have big effects on small vessels etc. So when doctors...

What if someone had diabetes but reversed it without knowing they even had diabetes?

If the person is still eating too many carbs or sugar, BS levels may still be elevated. Yes exercise will help, but it won't make you a non-diabetic.

What was your lowest reading ever?

I assume its when the libre has been compressed against something. i.e. when sleeping, so readings can be a bit out.

    Fiasp v novorapid

You're welcome. They do a range of sizes and they are very easy to use.

    Fiasp v novorapid

I know there has been varied opinions on FIASP. But there's a whole load of reasons for that, in general when people switch to FIASP they have done their own research so are probably looking into diabetes management more, so they have a keener eye. On top of this many people now use CGM's that...

    Newly Diagnosed

Good to see some informative posts here for people to make informed decisions. I'm no expert, but its not about it being normal, its about the transition of getting from high to normal and the changes in blood pressure along the way causing damage.

What was your lowest reading ever?

Lowest I've been when I've tested is 1.8. Although it could have been lower but I only checked the once. Demolished 2 packs of glucose tablets. Happened from Lantus (basal) insulin acting like long lasting when it hits a blood vessel. So basically the x amount of units I put for 24 hours, was...

    Newly Diagnosed

There's many reports showing the effects of drastically reduced hba1c causing increased rate of diabetic retinopathy. Yes having a lower hba1c is better, but not by drastic increase/decreases in BS levels, due to affects on blood vessels etc. Some reports...

Low carb is an excellent way to control type 2 diabetes. However be careful of reducing your hba1c drastically as it can have a worse effect on nerves, eyes, blood vessels etc. It should be done in a gradual way.

    New to T1D

As mentioned above, its best to talk to your consultants. As decreasing blood glucose levels very quickly can affect blood vessels, nerves and eyes etc. So they will most likely be trying to reduce it gradually. Although 20 is quite high to run at on a daily basis, have you spoken to them to...

    New here ..

Been type 1 for over 18 years, but I got it from a young age. I was the same at first, carefree just doing what was needed to get by. I then realized the potential harm I was doing to my body and focused on my diabetes management (A lot of good stuff on here and facebook groups). One thing that...

    Freestyle Libre Availability

I'm pretty sure retagging it does not make the sensor active again. Even when its finished the sensor will still send out NFC signals and picked up by apps like glimp, but the measuring mechanism will no longer work. Developers have tried hard to try and get round it with no success.

Mum of newly diagnosed 12 yo seeking a friendly ear!

Not speaking from a parents perspective, but as a child who was looked after by my parents from diagnosis at age 8. I'd say my biggest mistake was relying too much on my parents for diabetes management (yes I was young), yes they want to help the best they can, but nobody can understand your own...

Type 1 Hyper during/post vigorous excercise

In general HIIT increases blood glucose levels (sort of like fight-or-flight mode and the liver dumps glucose). I have done MMA and know other diabetics who also have done and it sure does spike the glucose levels, you will have to tinker with a small does of insulin before workouts to see how...

Type 1 CGM funding - no hypo awareness

As others have said its dependent on CCG's and then you have to fulfill certain criteria, which it sounds like you do. Frequent hypos, testing 10+ times a day etc. In regards to hypo awareness, this can usually be regained if you manage the levels well for a couple of weeks (minimize time in...

    Type 1 Vision test

WHen I did it, it was without glasses, room lights were off. It was basically a white background with lights flashing in different places, you focus on the middle, (some more intense than others) and when you see it you press the button in your hand each time. I found the first time it was a bit...

    Type 1 Basal Testing

I think the easiest way to do a basal test is to eat your last meal at 6pm, so you are sure the fast acting has left your system by 10/11pm. Make sure your level is within range and then check in the morning to see if its within 1.5 mmol.
