    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

The results are in. A1C of 6.2% or 44. Cholesterol was a mixed bag....LDL went from 2.39 to 4.60, but on the other hand my HDL increased from 0.92 to 1.04 and my triglycerides decreased from 2.90 to 1.64. So, my TG/HDL ratio is much improved. I feel like I am on the right path...my worst...

    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

Did a blood test last week, and I will get my A1C and cholesterol results on Thursday. Fingers crossed for a good result. My Libre estimates an A1C of 45.0 so I'm quite curious to see how close this matches the bloodwork. I think I'd be pretty pleased with that number, although some of it is...

    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

Thanks for the suggestions of cream in coffee and cheese....I've taken my coffee black for so long that it would be hard to change. But I can definitely much on cheese more often.

    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

Just to update, I've spent the past couple of weeks reading the cholesterol thread. Thank you so much @bulkbiker, it really put me on the right track in terms of the science. I've watched the youtube videos, and I've been listening to podcats from Diet Doctor, Peter Attia, etc on my nightly...

    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

    I just wanted to revive this thread with an update, and I am unfortunately as confused as ever. May 2019 - Total cholesterol 7.37, LDL 3.93, HDL 0.88, triclycerides 5.55, non-HDL 6.49, A1C 53 Oct 2019 - Total cholesterol 4.63, LDL 2.39, HDL 0.92, triclycerides 2.90, non-HDL 3.71, A1C 61...

Thanks, that's very helpful. I think the key is to get my HDL increased ASAP.

Lost 20kg so far (40 pounds) . My experience.

Congratulations on what you have achieved thus far! When you hit 82 kg, do you plan to change how you eat? What do you envision as your long term way of eating? Again, well done!

    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

Yes, North American....Canada! I've been making my morning smoothie earlier (frozen strawberries, unsweetened almond milk, vegan protein, and full fat greek yogurt) and thus I am feeling full when I leave the house and am no longer tempted to stop for a breakfast sandwich on my way to work...

    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

Just digging into this, but thank you so much for putting together that thread. A lot of reading and watching to do, but I know it will be worthwhile. In the short term, I see that I need to lower my carbs even more and also make sure to get lots of omega-3. So my strategy is to go even...

    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

Thanks, I am going to try to absorb everything in that link. WOE - generally under 100g carb per day. I avoid rice, bread, pasta, and most fruit. I eat a lot of eggs and beef. I have a weakness for a good breakfast sandwich, so I do eat a white english muffin about once a week with processed...

    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

Yes, I did fortunately fast for about 11 hours....at the time I didn't actually know that fasting is important for an accurate reading of triglycerides, but I was fasting out of general habit in advance of a blood test (I also told the phlebotomist that I was fasting).

    Help interpreting cholesterol numbers?

I had "borderline" cholesterol levels in the past (I never knew enough to ask the actual results), diagnosed Type 2 in Jan 2018, and then in May 2018 was put on statins (10mg). I'm honestly not sure what my cholesterol numbers were in say 2017 or early 2018, but I do have my most recent test...

We I had a quarterly A1C test done this week. My DCCT % went from 9.7 when I started meds in January and joined the forum to 5.5% at present. I'm very pleased with that although I do consider there to be more work to be done.

I was about 217 pounds one year ago and now 195. Or rather about 97 down to 88 kilos. I am 37 and six feet tall. Family and friends have definitely noticed the difference! Goal is to lose another 10 kilos within the next 6 months. Food quantity....I know one egg and two sausage links at 12pm...

@Crocodile, I've been eating 1/2 cup of nuts or a small piece of cheese around 11pm. Maybe I am just expecting too much too soon? I suppose an A1C average at the end of January of almost 13 mmol/L to the numbers I am seeing now (+/-7.5 first thing morning, 5 to 6.5 rest of day) is a small...

thanks @rom35. I have a walking route of 3.5km that I try to do 5 times per week (it's a little tough during snowstorms such as today...another 25cm falling at the moment). I've lost 19 pounds in the past 12 months, which is why I was so disappointed to see a high A1C a few weeks ago :-(

Thank you all for the replies. My young son woke me up at 5am and I never thought to test my blood at the time, so I didn't test until lunch today. Breakfast was coffee with cream and a piece of cheese at 7:30am. Lunch at 12pm was scrambled eggs with turkey sausage accompanied by plain greek...

Hi @Sue192, thanks for the welcome! I grew up in a family with many Type 1s, who always tested before meals...so I guess that is ingrained in me. How long after a meal should you test? Is it only worthwhile to test after a meal if you also tested before you ate? Carb count - I estimate I...

I'll try cutting out the evening beer for a while and see if that helps. It would be hard to go for a walk afterwards, as that would make it a 10pm walk and I fear that would wake me up and make it hard to go to sleep afterwards. The wine suggestion is good....I suppose a small serving of...

Yes, as I understand it there is basically 1 carb per ounce of beer (at reasonable alcohol levels). A beer in the evening while I listen to a record or read a book is my "quiet time"....I would have a hard time giving that up. But I am determined to have better morning numbers, so I'll do what...
