BD Microfine 4mm - Bad batch?

Yeah I think I will, I have another box unopened, I'll check to see if there's a batch number and if it's different I'll open that and try it then return this current box. I just thought I'd ask on here if anyone had the same experience as I'd have thought that the manufacturing tolerances would...

BD Microfine 4mm - Bad batch?

Is it possible to have a "bad batch" of needles? It seems that out of the blue, the box I'm currently using has some bad needles in. They almost feel barbed as they go in and occasionally draw blood. Maybe 1 in 3 are hurting quite badly whilst the others glide in. I'm rotating sites etc and it's...

    Carry case suggestions needed

I've looked at that case, it seems ideal other than I think Desang make it and their build quality as you rightly say is below par. I've contacted my insulin manufacturers last night by email to see if they could recommend a case. They've emailed back this morning to say that they are...

    Carry case suggestions needed

Actually I've got one of those meters in my meds cupboard, I've only used it once. The nurse at the Docs gave it to me but the following day the Diabetic clinic gave me a different one that does ketones too. I might start taking that out, it saves using the lancets and strips as you say. Hmm...

nearly everything but my insulin has been withdrawn

I can't use Jelly Babies, I'd not stop, I'd end up Hyper :) They were my fave sweets before being diagnosed :)

    Carry case suggestions needed

What are you T1 peeps using to carry around your stuff? I currently have a little case that came with my meter and to be fair it isn't bad and fits almost everything I need inc testing sharps, strips, meter, glucose tabs, needles and theres a tag outside to slide a pen in. Sadly it will only fit...

nearly everything but my insulin has been withdrawn

Are you guys using Glucogel for hypos? If I get a bit low, ie below 4 then I use glucose tablets. I always thought that glucogel was in case I ever needed assistance? I have a couple of tubes but I've never used them. I suppose it's kinder to teeth than glucose tablets!

    How to combat initial thirst?.?

He needs to avoid putting more sugars into his body in the short term. His thirst is because his body is trying to flush out the excess glucose so he'll be thirsty and making lots of trips to the loo. In the short term avoid carbs of any kind including fruit juice, lucozade etc. Drink just water...

Advice needed re: adjusting insulin to account for exercise.

Oooh some of those bikes bring back memories! I've heard about these old metal syringes at the clinic, I suppose I'm really lucky that medication has moved on so much from those days. Re motorcycling, yeah I'm confident enough to keep riding although I'll perhaps sell one of the bikes, I have...

Advice needed re: adjusting insulin to account for exercise.

Great advice Mikio, especially the warning signs for a hypo, although I get decent signs now, I was wondering if they would be apparent when cycling. I'm liking that you rely on "The Force", that raised a smile :) I've gotten into the habit of always carrying glucose tablets. They're my security...

    Confused Newbie

Hi Paul, Get back to the clinic and ask about carb counting. The only reason that you are having lows is that you insulin dosage is too high for the carbs you are consuming in the meal that follows. As you are newly diagnosed then it's somewhat of a guessing game really initially but it will...

    High BG at bedtime

Bear in mind however, that particular guide makes references to adjusting Basal rates during the day so it is aimed specifically at pump users. That said, you could still use the same testing method even if you are injecting Basal once daily.

    High BG at bedtime

HI Birchy, This will help. It's important to understand what you're trying to discover during the test. Remember to have some glucose tablets in stock before you do any testing in case you drop too low...
