    Sourdough Bread And Diabetes

It's interesting to reflect on how eager the sugar industry was to adopt the glycaemic index. They were initially highly resistant to anything that suggested less sugar might be a good thing, but quickly came around to promoting it as.. well.. really as a way of saying you can have your cake and...

https://www.hba1cnet.com/hba1c-calculator/ This is the most useful convertor I've found. It's not only that the US and UK use different units for HbA1c - but also for spot check results - this shows all four at once, so you can get something useful and comparable quickly. I generally leave a...

    Blood Sugars when unwell

For a normally-functioning metabolism, most of the ways the body interacts with blood glucose is about providing the body with glucose - to help with fending off that pesky lion, or to help out with dealing with an infection, or simply to deal with the process of engaging with deep sleep...

Diabetes using a combination of drugs

What would you describe as a low carb diet? (interested, but would also support the suggestion to have C-Peptide measured)

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Snap !! @Rachox Is that how it works, did I win? (sorry - no chatting) /backs away slowly

    Number still high

If you want a practical tip - really focus on that grazing - all food stimulates some insulin (we all talk about carbs for good reason, but all food stimulates some) - so the longer you go between meals, the better your ability to reduce insulin. If you find that difficult - you know, welcome...

    Diet with less fat

Totally agree with @Antje77 here - my wife had hers out - it's just a storage pouch for bile, not the means of production. In any event, the issue with lack of bile is that you don't absorb as much nutrient from fat as you might, it doesn't become a problem. The sugar is what is driving the...

    Do I have hypoglycemia?

Consider this an adjunct - not a reaction (see what I did there...?) We need to be a little careful in use of terms here - the kind of hypoglycaemic episodes you are talking about @Lamont D are fairly severe.. the term just means lower blood glucose than normal, so any process in the body that...

    Sugar levels type 2

How important is your stubbornness to you? Doesn't have to be lettuce (in fact there is almost no point in eating lettuce) - bacon and eggs, steak, all sorts of good things, but sugar will keep you on the track you are on. I had pretty similar numbers, and I'm only a couple of years behind. I...

    Do I have hypoglycemia?

it isn't so much that this happens inevitably as we get older, as much as it happens the more often we ask a lot of our insulin production. Ie, if you are on the carb rollercoaster that results from eating what we are often advised to (lots of starchy foods) - then the very simple version is...

    Do I have hypoglycemia?

yep - just to add to what @JoKalsbeek said - these levels that go red - they are for diabetics taking meds which lower blood glucose in various ways - your body will maintain whatever level you need, and to some extent, losing that ability to control blood glucose is what defines diabetes...

    Newbie

It may be amazing, but prone to hallucination; just be a little careful to check any information you get from a language algorithm. For example, we simply do not allow any posting that is an output of generative prediction, or any AI tool for that reason.

    Avoiding diabetes

So this study was really focused on a low-glycogen state.. I'm 100% NOT saying that this "is a game changer!!" - I did a long hard paddle after a 36 hour fast. Ketones through the roof, but could I accelerate? not at all... so I get the "the need for carbs is unavoidable" feeling ... but this...

    Avoiding diabetes

@Lataxe - I'm no expert really in vigorous exercise, but was watching an interview this morning that was going over some really current research that may overturn that generally held conviction - very short version is that all previous studies had simply not allowed sufficient adaptation, but...

    Avoiding diabetes

Ha !!! Fantastic insight Orson. That could be another piece of the puzzle for me as well.. about 2 years in to my initial "standard" diet plan, I developed an inguinal hernia as well. That was about a year prior to being diagnosed, so I never thought about any kind of connection, but losing...

Hi @Ja5sonC - welcome to the forum, and while @Resurgam is an active member, please be aware that this is very old thread, you may want to start off in the introductions section? For what it's worth - while lowering carbs does inevitably mean restricting some foods that will cause issues, there...

Low carb wirh or without metformin

The meditation suggestion may seem a bit left field, but I would totally back it up, I've been really surprised at the difference that ten minutes a day makes to your whole life.

    Hello!

You're quite right @lovinglife .. I thought I had made that clear, but you're right when I read it through. It's not obvious that I only mean ketones by themselves are fine and natural. Ketoacidosis is characterised by very high ketones and very high blood glucose at the same time.
