Get your next Libre to Abbott now!

The tolerances are here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/blood-sugar-level-ranges.html No apparent needed on the 7.5 for an hour not being dangerous: pretty much the entire global population will be at 7.5 for an hour each day. The graph is an interesting idea. I think you mean for...

Get your next Libre to Abbott now!

    1. Is this person aware of other medical reasons why it might not be suitable for you? Is that what you’re hinting at? Otherwise it’s a freely available product on sale to the general public that requires no additional medical sign off. ie it is not prescription only, or a controlled substance...

"Best" things doctors have said to you

I do have lots of sympathy as T1s a big deal, difficult and definitely a big life negative! Agree we can’t fully control only manage / mitigate. But that last sentence!!! Omg! If you chose to listen to thousands of endocrinologists rather than one dsn you would realise that 5-7 is not a must...

"Best" things doctors have said to you

Ideally is the key word there. Dr Google's first result points right back to this site. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/blood-sugar-level-ranges.html The NICE guidelines... For people with diabetes, blood sugar level targets are as follows: Before meals: 4 to 7 mmol/L for people...

Does anybody with T1 not get hypos

This. In my experience once your honeymoon ends - mine was nearly two years - it gets tougher. Bigger doses lead to more variation, glucagon is not there to get you out of lows, etc... It certainly doesn't become impossible, so don't worry, but do make the most of these current freedoms.

"Best" things doctors have said to you

You got told wrong then didn't you! A quick Google and you will find the ranges. Don't take the lack of knowledge of 1 DSN as your knowledge base going forward.

    Best CGM for triathlete

I've used the Libre and now Dexcom. Both are great. I also cycle and run a fair bit. One downside of the Libre I found is when cycling. As you typically wear the sensor on the back of one upper arm, first you need to get your scanner or phone out and into your opposite hand and then reach...

    Anxious, Worried and Stressed

Hi there, taking Novarapid after a meal is almost certainly not ideal. It takes time to start working and if you’ve already eaten it’ll be chasing rapidly rising sugars. The advice I got was to take it just before my first mouthful of food of the meal. However, i subsequently learnt about pre...

    Parking fine...treating hypo!!!

Just before we get lost in the semantics, worth pointing out that reason / excuse mean the same thing! Excuse: noun, A reason or explanation given to justify a fault or offence. So in this case I think it is perfectly fine to use the reason / excuse that you were having a hypo. As the...

    Insulin correction

Lots if it is a regular thing. As a one off a handful of times a year it sometimes can’t be helped. We all make a few mistakes, we get colds, our diabetes is erratic, etc. Get a feel for corrective doses so next time you can address it confidently. With no short acting onboard and running at...

    Insulin correction

If you think your basal is too high and will help bring you down then maybe ok. But high teens are not a good place to be for a few hours while you sleep. So maybe this is a chance to learn a bit about corrective doses! Play it safe and just inject 1 unit now and test again in a couple of...

I am not a liar or an idiot.

It hasn’t stopped me doing almost everything I’d like to do. It has made almost everything more difficult! It has negatively impacted lots of aspects of my life, to varying degrees. Having said that I do have a positive (but realistic) approach to it and try and make the best of it so that I...

    One word?

Actually as we’re only allowed one, will have to take back my ‘hard’ and replace with Onerous (One of my favourite words - can’t believe I forgot it originally - sums it up perfectly for me!)

Struggling to find the motivation to look after myself.

Hi @JamesCType1 well done for posting this, you've set things out well. I can understand much of it, though maybe not to these extremes! I think you're drinking about 20x the weekly recommendation! There's obviously lots of things going on but you can get there with little steps. Maybe your...

    Getting back to it! Running/weights

Well done on getting back training. And hope you had fun skiing, it's been a great season for snow hasn't it! On what you've posted... hmmm, not sure I would describe the first image as a gentle drop! Looks more like a sharp drop as the Libre trend arrow indicates. Why did you have 2 units...

How long have you discovered diabetes ?

Google is your friend... https://www.statista.com/statistics/241814/countries-with-highest-number-of-diabetics/ Lots of other stats in there as well.

    Libre on NHS

That’s a great Freudian slip there! Indeed you are correct it makes you eminently sensible. I recall the Libre tells you how many scans you do each day, which from memory I was at around 35-40, I certainly wouldn’t want to put my fingers through that (or paying that as the NHS)! Plus the Libre...

    Libre on NHS

oh, other thing to mention was at consultant appointment last week, he said the breakeven point on strips v libre was someone testing 6-8 times per day. I said that must be nearly all T1s - he said sadly not...

    Libre on NHS

Odd that they would refuse to let you use a freely and legally available product that you're paying for, when at the same time they'll prescribe you enough insulin (a restricted product) to kill a herd of wildebeest! Your bs numbers are very good in themselves; Libre would give you the insight...
