    Skiing and carrying insulin

Hello, as a skier who uses a pump, I can say very doable, just beware of the following: 1. Overly zealous security staff at airport - no Drs or consultant letters exempted me from a personal search, I must have one of those faces...! 2. At altitude and low temperature, your BG meter will stop...

    Type 1 In SERIOUS Trouble

I can empathise with your predicament. I had an insulin phobia and dropped half my body weight, had to spend a month on an anorexia ward for re-feeding. It is a horrid struggle and hard to communicate just how difficult things can be to others, and yes, you know you might die or end up very...

Gym before or after evening dinner

I use the gym or do a class / swim every day and find different activities have different effects. My DSN recommended the website run sweet which is brilliant for insulin adjustment and general sports advice. I have used it for info on activities when on basal bolus and a pump. Highly recommend.

Advise needed! My toenail has turned black

Go ASAP! I ignored an infection in my thumbnail. Result was 7 courses of different antibiotics, a week in hospital and now I may need surgery. The A&E doctor said that any doctor would rather see a diabetic and check to rule out an issue tan wait and see them through an amputation. A sobering...

T1 and in need of some help

Firstly, apologies for moaning. At 29, I feel very old. I was diagnosed as t1 in May last year and since then, my GP, consultant and DN feel I have been in complete denial. I am trying hard, but live alone, no family, have a very stressful and demanding job (often clocking up 60+ hours per...

    Exercise and hypos

Thanks, I had good BG levels of 7 when I set off so ketones weren't a consideration, and as a sponsored event, there was a mountain leader there who the 18.1 was when I had come off and was relaxing, it was very adrenaline fuelled as the weather was atrocious, so am assuming after doing some...

    Exercise and hypos

Today I climbed Snowdon (3 weeks after diagnosis, and 2 weeks after being put on insulin) in the freezing rain, raising £185 for Headway, and am very proud of myself! :D But I was wondering if anyone else has experienced rapid blood sugar changes (I went from 18.1 to 3.1 within a few hours)...

    Injection rooms?

Injecting and eating out I have just been put on insulin, and am fine with it, in fact, didn't realise how rough I felt until they started it! The question is on injecting and eating out etiquette. How do other people handle this? I tried eating out the other day with a friend, but was too...

    Help...... injecting

Hi, I have jsut started, just last week, and the finger pricks for the blood testing hurt far more! They will talk to you about it, and I was made to try a dummy injection. They had to show me 5 times as I was very dizzy after an admission for a bad hyper and they had to take me off the tablet...

    Newly diagnoed T1

Hi Melissa, I'm 29, and (very) newly diagnosed (since April 22nd, on insulin since last week) and the regime I am on is a long acting with 3 short acting, and I find it no hassle. I think it's easier than the horse pill sized tablets they tried at first! A disaster, as the A&E doctor put it...

Newl diagnosed type 1.5 - advice, please, anyone?

Thanks everyone again for amazing advice and responses. Now on insulin as I ended up with blood sugar at 29.8 and a little unwell! Bit of a nightmare, however using a basal bolus regime as opposed to the metformin, gliclazide and the joy of enalapril for kidneys (apparently I needed that...

Newl diagnosed type 1.5 - advice, please, anyone?

Thank you so much to both of you for taking the time to reply. The link has been a great starting point, and I understand about 'unusual case!' I feel it does seem to be a minefield of tests for a while, my GP called me in on Good Friday, talk about great service! Best of luck with your...

Newl diagnosed type 1.5 - advice, please, anyone?

Hello, I have had a bit of a strange week having gone to the doctors just feeling unwell, and being called in to be told after several repeat tests, all in rapid succesion, that I have type 1.5 diabetes (I didn't even know there was a 1.5 type), probably LADA. They called me in for results...
