    New to Tresiba

Hi, Took first injection of Tresiba last night - 9 units (was on Detemir 5 + 5.5) so starting conservatively. Went to bed on 5.7 with handful of nuts. Woke on 6.1. Looking at the Freestyle graph the lowest reading during the night looks about 4.5. As Tresiba is supposed to last up to 40 hours...

Night lows, help please, need to sleep

Scared to drop the cheese and nuts at night as they seem to be working but not a proper basal test if food taken?

Night lows, help please, need to sleep

What we've ended up doing is increasing his calories including more cheese and nuts at bedtime, it seems to be working atm! 4 nights with no lows. He's waking with BG on more or less what he went to bed with tho not a proper test I suppose with the nuts and cheese.

Night lows, help please, need to sleep

Looking at the graph the first which lasted about half an hour looks about 3.9ish then presumably a liver dump took him up to 4ish then again an hour later a bit lower for an hour. Unfortunately he's hypo unaware at those levels he did have the shakes a couple of weeks ago on 3.3 tho.

Night lows, help please, need to sleep

Because we've got a Freestyle we're sort of basal testing in the night every night! I dropped the basal because of lows in the nigh but it doesn't happen every night. He always drops at 2am but not always hypo low. We can get a three day stretch where he goes to bed on 8 drops to 5 at 2am but...

Night lows, help please, need to sleep

Sorry about your Mum - it's hard isn't it. Not a new batch of insulin. It doesn't happen every night. Last night he went to bed on 7.1 with 30g cheese and 30g almonds. 2am tested 5.3 and steady (Libra). This morning woke on 5.8 then I noticed the graph. He hypod at 2.30 for half an hour then...

Night lows, help please, need to sleep

Doing battle with 2am drops in BG, catching most at 4mmol ish. Looking back through notes trying to find a pattern. My husband is on Detemir was on 6.5 night 9pm and 6 day 9am. Have reduced the night twice now on 5. The day one is now 5.5 after a couple of days of late afternoon 4.4mmol BGs. The...

    Insulin to carb ratios

Thank you very much very clear. It was something the DNS said that had me wondering. She mentioned the basal 'picking up the slack'?

What basal are you on Paddy?

    Insulin to carb ratios

My aim is to get the end BG to match the start BG!!! Ambitious I know. How the basal comes into it is confusing me. If the injection is taken at 8am and it takes 5 hours to get back to the starting BG is the action time 5 hours (and the insulin to carb ratio was correct) OR does the basal take...

Slow instead of fast - b****r!

Done that, thanks. I suppose he's now got 5 slow working 3 hours early. The peak is 4 - 5 hours which would normally happen for him at 2 in the morning. I suppose in 24 hours time he's going to have a 3 hour gap - ****** again! Can you tell me donnellysdogs does slow have the same action as...

Slow instead of fast - b****r!

Husband has just injected 5 slow Detemir instead of 5 Novorapid. He would be taking 6 slow at 9.30 (it's now 6.30). What shall we do? Take the fast now and just 1 Detemir at 9.30?

    Novopen Echo question

It's happened twice, two different pens. The first my daughter watched my husband dial in 6 and inject, when I checked the pen later to get the time of the injection it was showing 8.5. Second time he primed on 2 then injected 2.5 and it was showing 5. Will be watching like a hawk from now on!!

    Novopen Echo question

Anyone had any issues with the pens showing a different number on the display when checking to what was injected?

Thanks very much, we're battling on!

Why such a radical change in I:C?

Thank you for replying, only managed the one basal so far as we've had lows during the day. I wonder could you clarify the 24 hour rule for me? I thinks it's after a low don't correct a high for 24 hours. So next meal whatever the BG only inject for the food with no correction. Does the BG just...

Why such a radical change in I:C?

You're not being picky Grant, when I said seemed to be okay I meant the difference between bed BG and morning BG was 1.4 which should mean it's okay but with still having problems you have to wonder.

    Correction dose help please

Have just finished reading about it YAAYAYAYAY. Husband also has memory issues so will be wonderful, wonder if GP will prescribe it? He's on Novopen 3s at the mo which appear to be the equivalent of using Betamax.

Why such a radical change in I:C?

Did the basal testing and it seemed to be ok but thinking about checking it again, thanks.
