How much time before you see a drug have any effect?

I adjust my dose up to about 5% each morning. There are occasional days where I test myself about 4 times throughout the day, I try to keep food out of the equation by making sure it's at least 2 hour since I ate, although to be honest if I did that every day, not only would my fingers look like...

Doc said no to self testing ...

You make me realise how lucky I am! Kind of - I have the opposite problem, my nurse will hand stuff out as if it were sweeties, given half the chance. If I wasn't on the ball, I'd be on anti-depressants by now. Downside is, deciding whether something is useful or not comes back to me, and it'd...

Doc said no to self testing ...

@Debzz_ , depending on how cynical you are: It is generally possible to get your doctor's surgery to provide you with a glucometer. Also, a lot of manufacturers will give them away through e.g. Facebook promotions. But they're not the main cost. The main cost is the test strips. This can be...

    Hello

ha ha, it's Atkins all over again! Actually I do eat bread, but in small quantities and brown only. I don't generally view anything as particularly "off limits" but I recognise these things as treats, and only allow myself small quantities 2-3 times a week. I have no idea if this is the correct...

How much time before you see a drug have any effect?

Humalog Mix 25. Is that relevant to the question? How? Sorry for being so direct, I just don't want to be ignorant, especially when lots of people try to blind me with science.

How much time before you see a drug have any effect?

Thanks @Freema. Believe you me, I used to get loads of exercise, and a decent diet, yet I still ended up having a stroke. So obviously something was wrong over-and-above. Sometimes, lifestyle changes are not enough.

    Hello

Thanks @Debzz_, yeah I used to be blasé about testing, but then I had the stroke! Since then I've got into the habit of testing myself every day. I aim for fasting, pre-breakfast but will sometimes also measure intra-day to spot variations. I've never had anyone say "don't test" to me, but that...

How much time before you see a drug have any effect?

Ha, I could do with an appetite suppressant! My lifestyle has become that much more sedentary over the last year and I've rocketted from around 75kg to 85kg! But, anecdotally, I can't say that I've eaten less this last month.

    Hello

Thanks @daisy1, I'd never really thought of myself as having "sweeter blood than normal" until now :). That's almost a compliment!

Type 2 - new to insulin

Hi @Sharon14448, I wouldn't have thought that anything you sniff would affect your blood sugar, so in that sense I think the choice is yours. But you're the person in charge - surely you can measure your sugar before and after to see any effect? If it's bad, you can avoid that medicine in the...

How much time before you see a drug have any effect?

A month ago I was happily using insulin to control my diabetes. This was something that was originally prescribed by the diabetes consultant at my local hospital, although I vary the dose myself according to my blood sugar tests. I then went for a check-up at my local doctors surgery. The nurse...

    Hello

Thanks for your kind words. @AM1874. Yes I think that our health is just one aspect of our lives when in fact we're many aspects combined. I meet too many people these days who will tell you that it is the be-all and end-all, it drives me crazy. I'm also T2, all I can say is that if you're...

    Conversion between units

Hi there, Does anybody know of something which will allow me to "project" my HbA1c value into an "assumed" glucometer value? Just so that I can compare the values side-by-side? I'm looking for an Android app, ideally, but can also use something on a web page. I'm looking for something...

    Hello

Hi there, nice to be on here. My name is Pete, I'm a 49yo male from the New Forest area of the UK. I have been a Type 2 diabetic for 20-odd years, although I was a keen cyclist and kept myself pretty fit. My other medical condition was a high blood pressure, which was diagnosed at about the...
