Would you say this is a Low-carb diet?

I'm the same re exercise Faith. My HbA1cs have been around 7.4-7.8% generally in the last few years, then I reduced my carbs from around 200-270/day to 50-130/day, averaging 90ish at the end of October. I think it's helped my control, my HbA1c is lower now than it used to be, but it's exactly...

    Cgm night readings

I didn't get this with my Dexcom G4 trial sensors but did get it the first night of the Medtronic sensor. It persistently woke me at various times all night with hypo alarms saying I was 2.9-3.9 when my fingerstick readings were 6.7-7.3. It didn't happen again but I only got 1 sensor to try &...

How long have you been diabetic and any complications?

I was diagnosed 33 years ago age 8, really no idea what my HbA1cs used to be, but I expect reasonably high as that was the days of urine glucose testing so no real self monitoring. I think the hospital were always fairly happy with my control & I never went off the rails. I have a letter with a...

Has anyone moved pct with a pump?

That's great - glad it got sorted. Laura - that makes me wonder if my old PCT are still paying for my pump supplies. I've just chosen a new one as I'm at the end of the 4 year warranty & the DSN said it usually takes "quite a few weeks" to get the funding sorted out - more than a month anyway...

Type 1 and High Protein Diet??

Hi Nomi, I'm type 1 on a pump, and reduced my carbs by over half about 3 months ago. I did find I had to give insulin to cover protein, still not got it quite right but am getting there through trial & error. I like numbers & ratios or formulae, I'm no good at just guesstimating insulin doses...

Has anyone moved pct with a pump?

Can a different pct change the original funding decision? Or is it definite that you will get funding, it's just the NHS paperwork & burocracy that's causing the delay? It must happen reasonably often, surely? I thought that when you first get the pump, if your consultant says you fit the NICE...

    Help about breakfast

I like natural yoghurt with Splenda & blueberries added, or I've got a bag of frozen strawberries in the freezer I can throw in instead.

    Sugar deviation

Re: Sugar deviation Is it standard deviation? I heard that this is a measure of how variable your BG results are. So if your average BG is 7.6, say, that could be cos all your pre meal BGs are 4 & your post meal ones are 10.3, or it could be that your pre meal ones are all 2 & your post meal...

Has anyone moved pct with a pump?

I have, but it never crossed my mind about funding - I just rang the hospital team & let them know I'd changed address & carried on phoning Animas for my supplies & there were never any queries from them. I definitely changed PCT, from Newcastle to Gateshead (there's a big "North of Tyne/South...

    What is a cup?

1 cup is 240ml. You can buy a baby's bottle to use as a measure, I have a cup measure that came in a breadmaker but don't know where else you can get them.

Would you say this is a Low-carb diet?

Hi Faith, First I've tried to work out your carb values for what you eat. I get: Breakfast: 42g average carbs Snack: 13-17g carbs (not tried to work out carbs for berries & pineapple as I'd need weights of each) Lunch: 30-35g carbs Snack: 13-25g carbs (I weigh my fruit, medium size apple is 13g...

    Hypo with no signs !

I'm a type 1 on insulin, but I definitely find cardio exercise drops my BG like a stone. There's some excellent information about managing insulin with exercise for diabetics on www.runsweet.com although I can't follow that to the letter - some trial & error is involved! You basically either...

    Kidneys, Diabetes and BP Tablets

The diabetes urine test is to detect tiny amounts of protein, which is the earliest sign of kidney damage, usually either due to longstanding diabetes or longstanding high blood pressure. If you have this, tablets called ACE inhibitors have been shown to reduce it's progression, they also lower...

dexcom 4 and animas vibe any tips

I agree with sleepless about the alarms - the Medtronic CGM alarms woke me at night but I slept right through the Animas ones. They did wake my husband though, so he woke me. The Medtronic system just lacked the accuracy of the Animas though, and as Animas/Dexcom costs less & I'll be self...

    Greek yogurt

I throw in a few blueberries, or frozen berries out of a bag, plus half a teaspoon of Splenda for sweetness.

    Recall?

I've had the letter, but it doesn't apply to me as I'm due a new pump next month anyway. It's a software problem with the 2020s that means they won't work after 31/12/14, so anyone who has a 2020 pump that would still be under warranty on that date is getting a free upgrade to a Vibe pump...

    Bread Recipe

Breadmaker definitely involved! I used the fast bake option, smallest size setting (medium for mine) & medium crust - will try lighter crust setting next time for a change.

How long do you get pump for?

The pump warranty is 4 years, and most PCTs pay for a new pump after the end of the warranty. They'll have to in your case, as Animas have just written to all 2020 pump users to say the pumps won't work after 31st Dec 2014, the software shuts down or something. I've just trialled a Vibe &...

Can't seem to control Blood Sugars

You're obviously exercising to help your BGs & your diet does sound good - could it be weight related? Has your weight changed in the last couple of months? If not, I don't know - maybe you do need another drug for your diabetes. If you're not keen on this you could try a couple more weeks of...

    Driving licence suspension

I was at a lecture about diabetes & driving given by a diabetes consultant working at the Queen Eluzabeth Hospital in Gateshead, and he stated that a study from a few years ago showed that 50% of type 1 diabetics who've had the disease from 20-30 years have some degree of hypo unawareness - by...
