Anyone had to supplement with Folic Acid with LCHF ?

Hi fendertele, I am also T2D and also have low folic acid, have had for years. My doctors also put me on 5mg daily which I took for years 3 months at a time. Sadly I have had to stop them but for most people that dose works well and you should see results at next blood tests.

    Foot check

Had mine yesterday also, just a bit longer, checked sensitivity with their little fibre wand (with my eyes closed), then totally checked every sq cm to make sure no bad hard skin or ulcers. Yes Lobsang Tsultim, it's worth having as my mum and dad didn't bother and both ended up with ulcerated...

    Newly type 2

Hi RosemaryB, I agree buy a test kit, test first thing in the morning, just before a meal and 2 hours after. That way you will see what spikes you so allow you to cut out or down those items. It takes a bit of time but is worth it and no it's not painful. I also have other medical conditions...

    Back in Hospital

Good point lucylocket61! Yes PALS may be able to help. I so remember the time when hospitals had their own kitchens and we were able to order through them, if we needed things not on the menu they would help us. Now everything delivered to be warmed, not much fresh stuff and no account of...

    Back in Hospital

Hi Nodemus, Pancreatitis OUCH! Sending lots of very gentle hugs ((((hugs)))) I can't offer an opinion on the meds sorry but would suggest (like others have) that you ask family or friends to bring you in some food. I have found on my hospital stays the staff are more than happy to put named...

    any food ideas?

Hi XmenFan, Welcome to the forum. A bit of a shock when you first find out you need to cut bread, rice potatoes etc out isn't it, we get so programmed to eat these things daily our brain thinks we have to IMHO. But as I found out we can eat very well indeed without them, I am trying the low carb...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Hi Annb, I have the same problems, far too many tablets for far too many conditions do not make it easy to lose weight, then add in not being able to exercise feels like a brick wall at times. But we will get there slowly and so far I personally haven't found a positive dietacian yet! I don't...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I can't believe this has been going on for so long! When I was first diagnosed about 12 years ago we lived about 20 miles away in a rural location and had a great GP practice. The first thing they did was give me a full test kit, showed me how to use it and added a huge pile of papers to read...
