    Insulin Pen Damaged

I thought the way Lantus/glargine worked was that the molecules were separate in the pen anyway, because it's soluble in the solution in the pen but significantly less so at body pH. When injected, pH changes and it crystallises out, to then very slowly released. (this would also explain Toujeo...

Needles Suitable For A Novopen 5

You're supposed to not leave the needles on. Since I got moved to Braun needles which have no little cover on them, I even actually follow that advice now (didn't for the previous 20-odd years. Also not supposed to try and put the little covers on either, danger of pricking yourself. I reckoned...

    Not Waking Up

The fits? As I said, I woke up with a swollen tongue and a nasty headache. I don't know how long after the fit I woke up, or how long it went on for. I don't recommend it :-) I'd far rather have woken up sweating, because I'd have been able to catch that and had something to eat.

    Not Waking Up

I've woken up rather too many times with my wife looking at me having given me the glucagon. A few of the early times this was accompanied by little green men (paramedics), but mostly just my wife handling it these days. I've also had two fits while I've been alone, and woken up with a swollen...

    Police Cells And No Insulin.

We do know, the information is in the original post. "But no I had to wait till the nurse came they told me he wouldn’t be long." "So scared I kept pressing this buzzer for water and explaining I need insulin now I have ketons I’m being sick can you not just phone me an ambulance ?" This...

    Police Cells And No Insulin.

I don't think that's a helpful answer. Yes, that may be the correct procedure - but in this case that procedure was not followed, and not following it is a really bad idea for T1D people.

What The **** Is This In My Insulin Pen?

+1 for denaturing. Might be worth calling the manufacturer too - they'd want to know if they've got a bad batch.

My motto regarding risk : "What's the worst that could happen". It's generally alien invasion.

Humalog is insulin lispro, novorapid insulin aspart. No, I don't know what that means the difference is either, though reading the wikipedia pages on them is interesting and explained it well (well, to me at least :) ). (both are tweaked so the insulin molecules don't combine as readily). They...

    Carb Counting And Exercise Questions

I did say peak :-) Yes - back to the original question, I'm moderately confident that within the bounds of what I can do (inject basal, inject bolus, eat), I'm not doing too badly even without formally carb counting. But I'd like to be able to tweak basal a bit more than I can at the moment -...

    Carb Counting And Exercise Questions

Sorry, I disagree with your interpretation of what's going on there. Yes, ideally I'd eat so the sugar from the food is effective while I'm out at exactly the rate it's being consumed. But that's less than precise, and I'm not going to worry too hard if I've erred on peak before rather than...

    Carb Counting And Exercise Questions

1 - Levemir is already split - the tweaks I'm looking at are at a finer level than the split levemir can manage 2 - The spike we've been talking about doesn't come with a bolus 3 - Um, that's what I've been talking about - that spike is me doing precisely that. You've changed from saying it's a...

Yep, but it doesn't say it's the law. If you go to the government pages, you won't find the numbers mentioned. The law just says not hypo, and if you were pulled over and tested at say 4.5, a prosecution would not go anywhere if you can demonstrate that isn't hypo for you. I'm not disagreeing...

Haven't we all been there? The shovelling of food in to correct a hypo is definitely something I've done many times. I'm working on it, and I definitely have to try quite hard to resist the temptation.

    Carb Counting And Exercise Questions

No, I don't have any defined targets. What I'd like to do is lower basal insulin at certain points in the day, because my main concern is being low, not high. I know you're trying to work on what you see as my high BSLs, but I'm not really interested in discussing those right now. And I suspect...

    Type 1'stars R Us

Not strictly true - you have to not be hypo. 5.0 is recommended, because it means in the two hours between tests (because DVLA haven't caught up with technology yet) you're less likely to go under. See eg https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/life-with-diabetes/driving - if under 4...

    Novorapid

Fiasp - novorapid with a bit of vitamin B3 to encourage the body to absorb it quicker, and the other extra is an amino acid to stabilise things in some way. And not at all to bring it back into patent protection. It does seem to work though.

    Toujeo/lantus

Worth remembering that Toujeo is just Lantus, only 3x concentration. Which does make a difference in behaviour, and conveniently means it can have a new patent, but a lot of it should be similar.

    Does Lantus Have A Peak?

Peak also depends on dose - big doses have a later peak.
