Very It's a Knockout. We had a company away day once which climaxed with a race where the organisers had got hold of some of the old costumes from it's a knockout, and I was lucky enough to be the runner in one. I now have a huge amount of sympathy for all those people on the programme who were...

I was quite lucky with my diagnosis. We'd just moved to a new town, and my wife (gf at the time) was very keen that we get properly registered with GPs, and as part of the registration there were some blood tests. They noticed the sugar on one, so said "come and do a fasting test". I went in...

    Mild Hypos & Jelly Babies

It may be worth noting that some of those advantages aren't universally agreed :-) Re the scoffing - if you need help to avoid scoffing, then yes, the less nice taste of tabs might be worth it, but if you can manage your hypo treats, no reason to not have something nice. See also Jaffa cakes...

    Question about novorapid sensitivity

Different ratios at different times of day is pretty normal. You just need to work out what the different ratio is in the evening for you :-) (Dawn phenomenon would mean you need more insulin in the morning, which you say you don't, so you're probably not suffering that).

Gah, I'd have liked that. I was happy to go to the hospital and get the sliding scale to work out what doses should be, but after a day or so with nothing much happening it was starting to feel a bit like a waste of time. I was then caught by the weekend - the consultant hadn't seen me on the...

Just under two weeks, and I was raring to get back, especially because I was contracting at the time so no sick leave. But I look after computers for a living, so there's no serious physical challenges.

Back in the winter of 2009/2010, on the first day of snow + ice I broke my hip. (Which was very annoying, especially because I like snow and ice, albeit for walking or skiing on). The main road to the hospital was blocked by a jackknifed lorry, so the traffic was all queued up for several miles...

    In need for some advice

Prevention is better than cure, so it looks like they're trying to prevent problems before they start. Decent HbA1c - is that nice and flat or swinging from high to low a lot? If the former, you're doing really well and I wouldn't worry. If the latter, worth trying to move it to the former, but...

I'm not sure I count running as "fun", but I do feel better for having done it, and if I've done nothing (run, cycle, walk) I get twitchy. Related to this was my fitness level after our last holiday. Cycling 50+ miles/day for two weeks with a full camping load definitely made me fitter, but it...

    Type 1 Program

You're not going to get a conclusion any time soon. The messaging has been consistent : "Wait, but there is no further information". You will get nothing more than that. You can either carry on waiting, or come to the realisation that this is going nowhere. I suggest the latter. If you need...

    Type 1 Program

How about "Don't wait for this, but if you have questions about low carbing to help with T1D, ask away in the main threads - there's the full spectrum of opinion from people who won't do it to people who strongly recommend it, and advice will come forth."?

Lantus. When is best to split this insulin?

I'm not entirely surprised that 18u at 5:30 is good for you overnight, so well done for trying it. You will probably need more bolus during the day now - rather than your food being dealt with by the excess of lantus, you'll need to give some quick acting to take care of it. As usual, can't...

    Question about BG Levels

Re exceeding 9 - depends on how long you exceed it for. Personally I'd not worry about 9s, and instead think about maybe 12 and higher - want to get rid of those, and even then, hitting 12 or even rather higher and coming down quickly won't be a big deal. There's a difference between what to...

Lantus. When is best to split this insulin?

Talk to your docs, explain your hypo anxiety, get them to prescribe a libre. Reader or phone in pocket = instant test, you can watch your sugars going up or down and correct before you go hypo. Test every 10 minutes if you want! The next stage is a miaomiao, which transmits the libre signals to...

Mel's already answered, but the obvious question is why would one want to patent it? Patents are there to allow people to share technology while retaining commercial advantage. In the case of all this free tech going around the diabetes world (ie the unofficial stuff like xdrip, loop etc, not...

Indeed - easy to remember and gives people a bit of protection if eg they're just using fingerpricks and can't see trends.

How do you deal with misinformation?

That one's scary because it's likely to be exactly the wrong thing to do, with a high chance of being lethally so.
