A surprising number of Android phones don't have the required NFC - if your phone doesn't have it, you need the dedicated reader.

It's important to remember that all those yummy things aren't necessarily nasty to the bodies of T1 people.

LADA Diabetes Fed up of being a guinea pig

The slow acting insulins really are slow acting. I'll happily put my levemir in when in the 4s, because I know it takes hours to do its thing. Re weight gain : as DCUKMod has said, all insulins will list weight gain as a side effect. If you give yourself too much insulin, you'll have to eat...

1.7 is "a bit low", and one I'd be correcting with glucose albeit in the form of jelly babies. I'll correct less severe ones with biscuits. And yes, you will get THE HUNGER, and will over correct. But 13 from that isn't too much to worry about so long as it doesn't happen very often. I've had...

    Whats going on

There's plenty of people on there who are over twice that age and have been given pumps (alternatively, yes, a 23 year old pump is probably knackered by now :-) ) Trying different basal regimes isn't a bad plan. Lantus, tresiba, levemir, toujeo, and once or twice daily. Eg I'm on levemir twice...

Mmm, cellophane :-) I mostly know Bridgwater from the bike shop - we got our first tandem there on the way back from Cornwall. My wife claims she was drugged by having run out of coffee in the morning.

Why is this "type" of exercise making me insulin resistant?

I think that might be relevant. I find highs can sometimes take what feels like ridiculous amounts of insulin to correct - it's surprising.

Type 1 and going camping on a stag do. Advice needed please

Y'know, saying something is similar to bud isn't necessarily the best recommendation :-) Nah, it's a good choice. I've never found conventional beer to give me big problems. 20g carb is the same as a couple of biscuits - no big deal if you're not low carbing. You just need to be careful -...

Don't look at the ingredients list for Coke :-) (The various phosphoric acid derivatives are commonly used as buffers, which is chemistry for pH stabilisers.)

    How low can you go?

I've seen 1.something on a fingerprick before. 2.2 is pretty low, but you're still conscious. Eat something, bring yourself back up (but don't overcorrect!), and bed will welcome you. (think about why it went low - if it's just a bit too much insulin for a bit too little food or too much...

Skype is owned by Microsoft, not Zuckerberg, so you can use it if you can find anybody not using facetime :-) The business equivalent is quite popular for work - we use it all the time.

    Freestyle libre sensor

Are you on a libre 2? The original sensor is still the same size, and the sticky bit the same too. The adhesive may have changed though.

Interesting. To renew my licence, even after losing it for hypos (while asleep...), the only bit related to visual acuity was as mentioned in the form which can be found here ...

    Riding a Motorbike

Would any doctor do an eyetest at different BSLs for a licence renewal? That's going to be quite tricky to arrange isn't it? I don't think anybody disagrees that hypo is a no-no for operating machinery.

Further to this, I looked up the Australian documentation relating to diabetes and driving. It's pretty much the same as the DVLA, they're concerned with hypos. There is a very short section on "Acute hyperglycaemia"...

    Riding a Motorbike

DVLA don't care about the highs, they only care about hypos. Which is entirely reasonable - hypo is the thing which is going to make you crash and hurt other people, high will only hurt you.

    Nocturnal Hypo’s

I've had quite a few serious hypos, resulting in fits and my wife giving me the glucagon injection. They're painful, scary for others, and generally bad for me. The miaomiao has sorted this - I get worken up if I'm too low.

    Banting and Best Fun Facts

Couple of things going on there. One is that you're probably not actually getting insulin, you're getting a modified form of it which may still be covered by a patent (though I know Lantus is past that, hence Toujeo coming along). Actrapid = human, novorapid = modified for example. And making...
