Insulin/weight gain - not happy! Any experiences?

Hi SparkyPony, I agree with Ebony's post - have a couple of reads of it and see what bits of advice you can take on. One piece of advice from me would be to not worry so much about the calorie content of your food and think more about carbohydrate content. I don't even know what calorific...

    The 2-hour post food level???

That's really interesting Emm! - as well as what I was recommended to do when I first became diabetic. I may try it again. The only problem is remembering to eat having injected. So easily get side tracked. Sam.

    The 2-hour post food level???

James - that's the exact same conversation I've had with specialists. And no conclusion was reached in my case either. I like your ideas on how to get around it. Another one I like is a protein shake with the meal. If eating a relatively low carb meal, the relatively high protein content...

    Type 1 and Bodyfat

Hi Ally, I saw your most recent post on soya protein, and am curious. I use soya protein every day as part of my breakfast shake and then use whey after the gym. I was of the understanding that soya is the most complete protein aside from eating actual meat. The advice I've read suggest it...

    Type 1 and Bodyfat

I had to take my protein shake container in to my dietician to convince her it provides good, healthy nutrition. And the same with soya milk - she didn't believe me when I said it had next to no carbs. Once you show them you know what you're talking about and that you're serious, they seem to...

    Greedy Day

Hi JC, I've definitely had those kind of days - unfortunately more frequently than you. And levels that go a bit higher than happened to you. We diabetics are in a constant state of monitor, address, eat, monitor, address, eat... add in exercise and stress and it's no wonder we let...

Hi Molewitters, Congratulations - great news. Indeed - waking up a bit high the morning after isn't too bad when you realise your body has managed to alert you to a hypo whilst asleep! Keep following that crazy advice 8) Sam.

    Where to inject?

Hi candi-girl, my understanding (others will correct me if I'm wrong) is that fat gives a more even gradual release than injecting into muscle. I have injected into muscle before when trying to correct a massive accidental high. So, yes, if you inject at the top of the arm it'll reduce bg...

Will there ever be a cure?

Agree with Jonesy. The government/NHS would love to never have to treat a diabetic ever again. And I believe there are enough passionate researchers in universities and labs around the world that will enable a cure to be found. It's a nailed-on Nobel prize for the person who finds it, no?

Will there ever be a cure?

I think there will be a cure one day. Maybe not in our lifetime, but some time. The speed of advances being made in medicine and science are incredible and the more advanced we become, the quicker the developments are realised. Diabetes isn't an unfathomable disease, it has set boundaries...

It's great you've got such an amazing partner, but are they around you all day and night? What happens if you have a hypo in the night and your partner doesn't wake up and give you sugar? The potential short term consequences of having no hypo sensations appears a vastly greater danger to your...

    Insulin stinging

I've noticed Lantus and Novorapid stinging occasionally. But it seems to be only sometimes. Guess it depends on the bit of flesh you're injecting into too - some can be really sensitive for no reason and then others I can't even feel the needle go in!

Thanks everyone for your replies. Seems that those few days were a blip and levels are back to normal now :?

    2nd Honeymoon?

I know the average readings on the meter don't equate to hba1c results, but is there a direct relationship? Does anyone know a conversion factor? Nigel - I do all the stuff you recommended meticulously, which is why I'm at a loss as to why my levels have suddenly gone up. And my ratios were...

    2nd Honeymoon?

Hi All, Have been getting a bit annoyed this week. Firstly from the dull headache I've been experiencing every day. Have been well hydrated, not too stressed, eating the normal healthy diet but can't shake it off. Have no other symptoms. Decided to look back at my bg levels for the week and...

how often do you test your bg

I test when I wake up. I have the same breakfast every day, so don't test again until lunch. If I go to the gym at lunch time I sometimes test again after the gym, but if not, the next test is usually at 5pm, just before I drive home. I then don't test again until bed time. So an average day...

    Can hypos make you vomit?

Hi Goji (or Gojo), I've never felt sick due to hypo - just hungry, hungry, hungry. How much sugar do you use to treat a hypo? I use about 20g ,30 tops. Sam.

    Arghhhh i want a kit kat :o(

Last Friday I ate 4 donuts! Not all together, but still, had to inject massive doses of insulin to go with them. Everyone has a blow out sometimes  Sam.

    numb leg

I'd definitely go to the doctor if I had numbness over 4 or 5 days that didn't go away. It may be totally unrelated to the diabetes too. Sam.
