    The Moods

Hi Jammer, I have this all the time. One day I'll be loving my job, on top of the world, and the next day the slightest comment from my manager will set me off and I'll be hating it for a couple of days. And the mood doesn't just affect me at work. I'll be grumpy at home, hating everything...

I'd be interested in that research too... the stuff about death rates before and after the discovery of insulin.

Is a diet necessary for Type 1 diabetics?

We are all on a diet. Diabetics, non-diabetics, type 1, type 2, etc. It is a way of life. Some people have bad diets and some people have good diets. A lot of people don't agree on what is good and what is bad. At the end of the day, the most important thing for diabetics is monitoring how...

    controversial views insulin

Hi IC. I am very happy with the insulin regime I am on. It is acheiving exactly what I expected. I feel 100 times better than pre-diagnosis, with energy levels a lot higher, a healthy weight and body shape being maintained, much better complection and positive attitude to life. On the rare...

    bloated

I have felt bloated before - it's down to me drinking beer with a meal. So now I stick to wine with food. Can't say I've ever heard of insulin causing bloatedness... best ask your doctor.

    Dreadful story of Phoebe.

Looks like the free health care arrived too late for her. Would her parents have taken her to see someone earlier if they knew they wouldn't have to pay?

    Nutritional scales!

Hi covman, I bought these scales and am really happy with them. Tested them out with some known-value foodstuffs and the pre-programmed values seem accurate. http://www.johnlewis.com/230636547/Product.aspx Only thing is they require you to have a bowl for putting the food in. would have...

    Going hypo and beyond

I think you should also be discussing these questions with your diabetes care team - are they aware you're suffering this much over the last couple of years?

New to Type 1 - Can I still go diving?

I'd ask your instructor. I was offered scuba lessons on holiday as long as my GP/diabetes consultant had provided a letter saying they were happy to let me do it. Needless to say, I didn't happen to have one on my person ;) I think it's probably due to a combination of things - two I can see...

    Hypo's (various thoughts and traits)

Hi Martin, Interesting questions. On the 'visions' track... I have sometimes experienced amazing clarity of thought, or felt like I was thinking differently to the normal me. It's almost as if someone has switched off my inhibitors, turned up the imagination a few notches and dared me to...

    Travelling with diabetes.

Hi Jo, I haven't travelled for more than 3 weeks, so haven't really got any advice on obtaining/keeping insulin abroad. On the weightloss front, I am probably going to say the same old boring stuff as your doctor, but it works for me. When I want to lose weight, I eat less food and when I...

    GP or specialist care?

I've experienced 'care' from two different hospitals and two GPs. Overall, I'd say the hospital unit is more dedicated, has more resources and more specialists, so is better equipped to deal with any problems, etc. The surgery was handy, as it was close to home, but I do feel now that the...

    how low BG ?

Every other day is considered too frequent. My nurses get concerned about my insulin dosing if I get 3 or more hypos per week. Would never want to lose the sensitivity, so if the other option is the odd 0.5% on my Hba1C, I'll take it. As with everything diabetic, it's a balancing act!

Do you think Universities do enough to cater for diabetics?

And there's me limiting my consumption to 2 cups a day... better get some more in! UPB - have you got links to the research findings? Sam.

Do you think Universities do enough to cater for diabetics?

good points copepod. Another solution would have been to just eat the sugar without adding the coffee. I've done that before. And it comes in nice 5g packets - perfectly quantified.

Who has actually had a complication?

Are you trying to start the most depressing thread in history? 4 years in and no complications. Apart from getting looked at funny when injecting in restaurants abroad. Never had a problem in England, but twice I've had strange looks from Italians.
