    DVLA licence renewal form

Thanks Ellie, unfortunately not as they say: 'You cannot use this service to: ...renew a full or provisional licence for a minibus, bus, coach or lorry - order forms D2/D4 from DVLA instead...' Which leads to: 'You cannot currently order application packs or forms online because of coronavirus...

COVID-19 can survive on soles for up to five days

Change your shoes at the door. I quarantine post and parcels, and quarantine or wash my shopping. And my hands. Relative of a friend who is a senior medic, and on immunosuppressants does the same. It's all about minimising the channels of transmission. Plenty of people round here are...

    Feeling Despondent

Maybe you should talk to your GP or diabetic specialist. Your BG is running consistently high - fasting is only a short-term solution. In the meantime, avoiding carbs will help.

Feeling a bit down & fed up

Hypo / hyper... Hypo can lead to an ambulance or death quite quickly. Hyper is a bit slower, so less risky if you test. Interested in your comment on hives. Must look into that. I associate it with blue cheese, red wine, tomatoes, getting cold. Good luck!

Dropping too low when cycling home

The exercise increases your insulin sensitivity for quite a while. In my case to the next day. So you'll need less insulin. You may need to reduce your background dose - if you're on long- and short-acting. You'll also need less insulin for carbohydrate.

    DVLA licence renewal form

My driving licence is on an annual renewal, which is coming up in June. I should have received the renewal form by now, but no sign. If the form is completed and returned, I can continue to drive whilst the renewal goes through the hoops. Took 4 months last time. The DVLA website says that...

Covid/Coronavirus and diabetes - the numbers

Well done. But surely the statisticians who have access to NHS data should be disaggregating the numbers by now? Figures out of China were published on 24 January, and similar to this. Can we not do better?

Can’t work up the nerve to throw away an old pump

Which make and model of pump is it? There's work going on to decrypt some pumps to make them loopable so you could donate it to a worthy cause.

Freestyle Libre and accu chek aviva

If you have an NFC-enabled Android mobile, try Glimp. It calibrates the Libre sensor with your fingerstick readings. Bear in mind that fingersticks also aren't 100% accurate; clean your finger before testing and it may be worth doing a second fingerstick if there's an unexpected result...

    Spoiled insulin

I spend long periods when my insulin is often around 35+°C during the day and haven't noticed any degradation for the three weeks the insulin is at these temperatures. I keep fresh insulin in the fridge, but don't bother to refrigerate when I'm travelling as I've never experienced any...

    Medtronic 640g - 4 failed pumps

I've had a 640g for two years, and I'm about to get the third one. To be fair, the last one was probably down to faulty infusion sets, as shortly after I returned it with a problem which could have been either, they recalled that batch of infusion sets I'm on holiday and my second pump...

    Roast/frozen potatoes

Those numbers look good to me. What's the problem with a BG of 6.6mmol/L? Normal range is around 4-8mmol/L with temporary spikes above. I'm not sure there's any definitive answers on the relationship between temporary spikes and complications, but continuous raised BGs do appear to be linked...

    Diabetes Burnout.

There are quite a few open source projects connected with monitoring blood glucose, open- and closed-loop control, some on Android. Quite a few are on Github and Gitter. If you haven't seen them take a look, maybe you could contribute.

    Forgot lantus, what now?

I've done this too. Lantus is a long-acting insulin. The safest option is to take short-acting insulin to correct your BG. A typical ratio of BG to short-acting is 2:1. So to reduce BG by 9mmol/L, would require 4.5 units of rapid-acting. Bear in mind: The ratio varies with individual...

Type 1 Dexcom G6 and Freestyle libre on NHS

You can use a third-party app such as Glimp (Android) on an NFC-enabled phone to calibrate the Libre sensor. I got really accurate readings with Glimp, meaning typically less than 0.5mmol/L difference within the 3 to 12mmol/L range and it would even make the odd duff sensor useable. Having...

Cbd Oil With Type 1 Diabetes.

Assuming you've followed all the usual steps to manage your BG, it might be worth checking whether you're sensitive to certain classes of food, or environmental factors. In my case it was histamines, similar to hay fever but present in food.

    Medtronics 640G

Might be worth trying MedWow: http://www.medwow.com/used-insulin-pump-equipment/252.med I've got a 640G, and it's a good pump, but if I were getting one now, and technically literate, I would look very hard at the new Dana pump with open software, or one of the others which can be remotely...
