But it's true. Fix the low BG and the problem goes away. Better to deal with it than deny it.

I am developing a Diabetes App, help me

I think the first thing is to avoid unnecessary data entry. I've a Freestyle Libre and pump; mySugr is supposed to import readings but doesn't, which means it doesn't add to what I already have. It would be helpful to have analytics for insulin and carb sensitivities; bearing in mind that...

    Leg calf cramps at night

I find really hot water relaxes cramp, which I tend to get if I don't stretch after exercise. Sometimes just a day of walking around town.

Type 1: Would you be willing to share your diabetic data for research?

You might find that dosage based on CGM or Freestyle Libre data provides good results - possibly better than carb counting because a number of other parameters are varying, including carb estimates.

Approved Temperature controlled insulin storage features (Survey)

Do you have any data on insulin stability? I spend a lot of time in a hot country and my 10ml Humalog vials have not shown any reduction in efficacy after a month at 35 to 39°C. I wouldn't leave them in the sun though. Nor have I had any problems with penfill cartridges over shorter periods.

A question about alcohol and mixers

I'd count carbs for drinks and mixers but not the alcohol itself. Beer and wine have some carbs, as do liqueurs, juices, syrups and sweetened mixers. Sugar free mixers and soda don't. Neither do gin, vodka, whisky etc. And lemon or lime juice are negligible in normal quantities. Medical...

Does drinking black coffee affect your BG?

I'm T1 and drink quite a lot of black coffee, usually a cup for breakfast, nothing else until lunch. I switched from white coffee to black because it was raising my BG. I have looked for the effect on my blood glucose but my Freestyle Libre shows nothing noticeable. And no difference on days...

    Freestyle Libre Manual

I've had the Freestyle Libre for some time, and using both the reader and the Libre link app for a few months. The PC or OSx software which analyses the reader allows you to print and save PDF reports, but the Librelink does not. It does display a full suite of reports on screen, and it has...

    Freestyle libre CGM

The Libre tends to be less accurate outside the normal range. The Glimp app reads the Libre sensor and uses fingerstick readings to adjust the readings. It works well, even for 'faulty' sensors, but I'd still check with a fingerstick at least daily.

Anyone have their Insulin degrade in this heat recently?

As Chas and others say, temperature is unlikely to be the cause of your problems. I've kept pens for weeks at 35-39 °C without any change in effectiveness. It might be a different matter if they were in direct sun and the temperature could get much higher. Maybe obvious, but are you sure...

    Dark Chocolate Recommendations

For flavour I'd recommend Willie's chocolate - either 180g pure chocolate block (cacao), or sugared flavoured bars - or Valrhona 250g dark chocolate bar for cooking, around 80%. If you're in Edinburgh, Coco make delicious chocolate bars with unusual flavours. If I can't get those or want...

Really struggling with what insulin to use

Sounds like the brain fog started after the change in insulin, so not obviously related. If you have good control of your blood glucose control then your insulin and management is working. What else could be causing the brain fog?

Changing over to Levemir from Lantus

I made the change from Lantus to Levemir six months ago and I used my Freestyle Libre to calibrate dosage. I had been on twice-daily Lantus. As the Levemir didn't last long enough I switched to thrice-daily Lantus at midnight, 8am and 4pm; in my case Levemir starts to roll off in around 6-7...

    Glucose meter

From my point of view it should be small and unobtrusive so that it's easy to carry in a pocket, with finger-pricker and strips. My favourite was similar to a biro so easily fitted in a jacket pocket with an insulin pen. No case. It also has to be easy and unobtrusive to use. No reason why it...

    Still struggling with BS levels...

I second noblehead's advice re basal tests. You need to simplify things to see what's going on - make one change at a time. Check your overnight profile first - ideally it should be flat or rising slightly to avoid overnight hypos. Run a fasting day to check your daytime profile. Adjust your...

Low bg levels and advice needed

I asked a consultant the same question recently and, from memory, was told that in 'well-controlled' diabetics, i.e. reasonable HBa1c the risks of complications were around 0.5%. As this is based on HBa1c it suggests that temporary highs aren't a big problem. But running with low HBa1C makes...

Poll - side effects from statins?

Atorvastatin increased my sensitivity to histamines, most of which are dietary. Symptoms of histamine intolerance include persistently itching skin, tired or sore muscles especially shoulders, occasional migraines and stabbing pains in the gut, bloated abdomen, slow-thinking, and a few other...

    Breakfast

Depending what insulin you're taking it will act over a longer or shorter period, but even a rapid-acting insulin will probably have a peak effect around two hours, and still be working after five hours. After the different peaks, do you finish at the same level or different levels? If after...
