    Foot problems - any experience?

I'm sorry to hear that you are having these problems Chris. I was diagnosed 18 months ago HBA1c 53. I have kept it under 40 for the last 15 months, but I do get some pains in my feet. They aren't numb, but I get like mini electric shocks from time to time. The shocks occur every couple of...

    Type 2 Reversible

I think you should feel lucky that you have found a nurse who believes that cutting down carbs is a positive step toward diabetes control. Most still think a balanced diet including lots of good carbs is the only way to do it.

    calorie checker !!!!!

My advice is forget about calories and try to greatly reduce carbohydrate intake. Most people on this site find it easier to control their weight if they count carbs rather than calories. On a low carb diet, you can fine tune your fat intake to control your weight. It's easier as you no...

    Type 1 HBA1c

I agree with Jat1. The medical world can't decide whether fat is good or bad, but it is certainly much easier to control your weight if you up your fat and lower your carb intake. Carbs are addictive, eat less carb and you should feel less hungry. I used to eat large meals and then have...

Why isn't my blood pressure coming down?

My BP came down pretty quickly once I got on a LCHF diet, but it took over a year to get my early morning BG levels down. We are all different. I don't think your BP is too bad. You have to balance the slight risk it presents against the side effects from the medication. Only you can make...

    For all those newly diagnosed

Well done indeed. There's no need to say stick with it, because clearly you will.

I have never seen my GP so flabbergasted

I had a similar response from a diabetes nurse when my figures fell from 53 to 40. She still couldn't get her head around a LCHF diet though, even though all my other health measures are vastly improved. I think there must be a little room in the NHS where they brainwash staff, "Carbs are...

    Headache

If you eat no processed foods your salt intake is likely to be very low. I suffered from headaches when I first followed a LCHF diet and found that a little added salt got rid of them.

    Type 2 Latest HBA1c

I'm very suspicious of medical professionals who say that anyone who has ever been diagnosed as diabetic must go on statins or the worst will happen. There is no real evidence to support the view that someone who was briefly diabetic, but is now in the normal range is at greater risk. The...

    Help Needed Please regarding eyes

I too have had two laser sessions (and 24 eye injections). I have not had any permanent determination in my vision, but it was a bit blurry for the first week or so. Laser treatment is not without risk as it kills cells in the retina, but I wouldn't worry if the doctor isn't.

    Exercise does the trick

It certainly does, though there are times when I have to force myself to climb on the exercise bike for the good of my health. I always love rugby refereeing and never find it a chore. Unfortunately, I'm 64 and my days as an active referee are numbered. There are still times when I get there...

    Exercise does the trick

The point I was making is that exercise has an immediate and lasting effect on my BG levels. If I test at 8.0 after a meal, 15 minutes on my exercise bike and it's down to 5.5 and it stays low until I eat again. I absolutely agree that exercise alone won't put you into recession, but at least...

    Exercise does the trick

It just shows that we have to be determined if we want to beat this thing.

    Type 2 Elevated HBA1C result

Fantastic, but please don't forget it's a marathon, not a sprint. We all have good and bad days. Something as simple as a bit of stress or a head cold can put BG up, so try not to give up if you have a couple of bad days. The HBA1c measures average Bg over a 2-3 month period, so the odd bad...

    Exercise does the trick

I did quite a lot of exercise before my diagnosis, but it tended to be at the weekends. During the week 'I was too busy'. I really believe that little and often is better than a lot now and again. I try to walk up stairs at least once or twice an hour when I'm busy with my desk job. A brisk...

    Exercise does the trick

That is very interesting. Unfortunately, I have to be careful with weights. I went to the gym regularly when I was first diagnosed and it did help to reduce my BG levels. Unfortunately it also gave me a frozen shoulder (a common problem with diabetics apparently) so I now stick to running and...

    Type 2 Elevated HBA1C result

Meat has very low or zero carbs. Fish is very good. Cheese, cream, salads nuts and seeds are excellent. I'm afraid that the NHS still advise T2 diabetics to eat a balanced diet with around 60% of the diet comprised of good carbs like wholemeal bread, brown rice and pasts. If you haven't got...

    Type 2 Elevated HBA1C result

It's not just about reducing your intake of sugary foods Grahammilne1994. Carbohydrsates convert to glucose in the body. Try to reduce your intake of the bad carbs, potatoes, white bread, rice and pasta and watch how much veg and fruit you eat as they are usually moderate/high in carbs. Many...

    Exercise does the trick

I have found that my BG level plummets if I do just 10 minutes gentle jogging exercise. I ate out with my wife this evening. I chose meat with a salad, but the salad had a dressing. 1.5 hours after first bite my BG was 8.6. I went out and jogged gently for five minutes. My BG re-tested at...
