Prof Roy Taylor presentation from EASD Conference

Found this video of Roy Taylor presenting at EASD conference in Lisbon in mid September. The focus is on the pancreas and beta cells and the effect the very low calorie diet has on the fat in the pancreas. He only touches on the DIRECT study in terms of what it is trying to achieve. NB...

alpha lipoic acid - how much do you take?

Hi @Juicetin, Glad to hear that your neuropathy is much better. So is mine... almost normal now. I am taking 200mg a day of r-ala so same dosage as you. I have also been keeping blood sugar very close to normal range though so that may be helping.

Dr Jason Fung & Prof Roy Taylor both trying to mimic bariatric surgery ?

Just found this press release about Newcastle diet (DIRECT study results) published 13th September 2017. http://www.ncl.ac.uk/press/news/2017/09/type2diabetesisreversible/

Dr Jason Fung & Prof Roy Taylor both trying to mimic bariatric surgery ?

@ringi, Thank you for these links. From your other posts I can see that you are very well informed on all this stuff. I need to do some more reading / watching ! Prof Taylor seems quite convinced that the excess (<1 gram) of fat in the pancreas is the key to it (at least he was a while ago...

Dr Jason Fung & Prof Roy Taylor both trying to mimic bariatric surgery ?

Thanks for all the really informative answers. I do understand the differences in eating programs and that Dr Fung's emphasis is on allowing the body to repair itself during fasting periods. Prof Taylor's hypothesis is the twin cycles of clearing out the liver fat and then most importantly...

When & where will results of DIRECT study be presented?

Prof Taylor is scheduled to present on 5th December at international diabetes federation conference in Abu Dhabi. I think it's early results of DIRECT study.

Dr Jason Fung & Prof Roy Taylor both trying to mimic bariatric surgery ?

I've read quite a bit about Prof Roy Taylors work with the Newcastle diet. Today I have been reading Jason Fung book on fasting. It looks to me like they are both aiming for reversing diabetes by trying to mimic what happens with bariatric surgery. Dr Fung talks a lot about fatty liver and...

Has anyone failed to reverse their T2 on Newcastle Diet?

I am also unclear about what exactly causes the 'remission/reversal'. From what I've read, Prof Taylor says that theres nothing special about using the shakes to lose weight. So long as you lose enough weight to clear first the liver fat and then the pancreatic fat that should do the trick...

Has anyone failed to reverse their T2 on Newcastle Diet?

Prof Taylor wrote the foreword to Michael Mosleys book (the eight week blood sugar diet). This is effectively a lowish carb (about 50g per day) Mediterranean style diet aimed at doing same as Newcastle diet but using real food. Prof Taylor doesn't care how you achieve the weight loss.

After the Newcastle Diet Real World

My understanding of prof Taylor's work is that the key is to clear fat out of the liver and pancreas by losing weight. After the diet you need to keep the weight off to keep liver and pancreas clear of fat. Your new weight will be substantially lower than before the diet (e.g. 15% lower)...

    Vit D shortage

@Bluetit1802 My last years UK blood test says "<25 nmol/L: OVERT VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY INDICATED" Recent blood test says "Values between 75 and 120 nmol/L indicate sufficient vitamin D " So less than 25 nmol/L is deficient and between 75 and 120 nmol/L is fine. Presumably between 25 and 75...

Prof Roy Taylor's work on reversing type 2 diabetes

Hi @bulkbiker I believe the Michael Mosley Blood Sugar Diet is actually an 800 kcal Low Carb mediteranean style diet. From memory its about 50g carb but not high fat. Guess you'd struggle to get a lot of fat with that calorie restriction.

Prof Roy Taylor's work on reversing type 2 diabetes

Just found the video. It's on YouTube called 'prof Roy Taylor - freedom from diabetes'. It's an interview by Gary Williams dated 3rd august 2017. Prof Taylor says results of the direct study will be presented in December at an international diabetes conference. He actually mentions the words...

Prof Roy Taylor's work on reversing type 2 diabetes

Thanks @SockFiddler and @Pipp. Don't know how I found this interview with Prof Taylor, but it was a shortish video on Youtube. I got quite excited when he said something along the lines of the results will be published in a few months and it could be a game changer !! Then I got interrupted...

Prof Roy Taylor's work on reversing type 2 diabetes

I've been reading up about Roy Taylor's work on the mechanisms that cause diabetes and how it can be reversed by diet (eg Newcastle diet). I stumbled across a video of an interview with him where I think he said the results of the big study that is ongoing are to be published 'in a few months...

Insulin resistance reversal on Newcastle Diet

Update: I've found the paper on Newcastle University website. Hopefully I'll understand it and be convinced that losing fat from the liver and pancreas will do the trick even without such a drastic calorie restriction as 800kcal per day ! (I don't have much weight to lose)
