    Type 2 and beta blockers

It very much depends on which beta blocker you are taking. Atenolol being the one to avoid. https://gpnotebook.com/simplepage.cfm?ID=x20120516081816351223 Beta blockers in diabetes and insulin resistance: studies, such as the Losartan Intervention for Endpoint Reduction in Hypertension Study...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

When anyone posts on any thread it automatically becomes a watched thread. We don't have to ask for this. I had no idea this thread had been moved but it has made no difference to me. I still got the alerts (top right). Emails have always been disabled.

    Christmas delivery!

Lovely thought to be appreciated. I agree, a food bank sounds the best place for it though!

To test over Christmas or not?

This will be my 7th Christmas since diagnosis, and on each one I have relaxed the carbs, eaten a mince pie, proper chocolates, roast spuds, even a strawberry meringue once or twice. I test my fasting when I get up Christmas morning, and test again at bedtime, then continue normal testing from...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

My 25 year old grandson shares a house with 7 other young people in Tier 3. He is working over Christmas. The rest of his household are going to parents so he would be on his own after work. First time ever not being able to be with his family. He has invited a friend in a similar situation to...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

My son-in-law, aged 52, has tested positive. His symptoms started on 9th December. Today is the 19th and his isolation period is ending. However, his problem is severe fatigue, being hot and sweaty, but no high temperature, feeling sick, loss of taste, dizziness. He has had no shortness of...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

Not according to the graphics on the BBC and ITV news every evening. It clearly say deaths from all causes where a positive test has been made during the previous 28 days. Rules were amended over the summer to include deaths in the coronavirus total only if they occurred within 28 days of a...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

I don't like the stats on Covid deaths. The numbers quoted are for deaths from ALL CAUSES of people that had a positive test within the previous 28 days. That will include anyone stabbed, shot, injured in an accident, with a very short prognosis due to many conditions etc. When anyone is...

Husband thinks I’m trying to kill him!

Hello and welcome. Can you tell us if your husband has been prescribed any medication, and what it is? This is important because it can affect our answers. Next, your husband needs to phone the surgery and ask for a print out of his test results. This is important because he needs to know...

    Cholesterol

Please don't worry. Your nurse is misguided. Our liver makes our cholesterol as and when it is needed - and it is needed for many, many things as every cell in the body needs it. Only about 15% or less comes from the food we eat. There are many of us on this forum that can testify to reduced...

    Novavax vaccine Trial

Maybe you didn't have the vaccine. Maybe your side effects were some reaction to what was in the placebo, or all in your mind. ;)

    Getting a flu jab

No, it was the NHS rules at the time. I wasn't diabetic then and had no underlying illnesses.

    Getting a flu jab

My husband and I always go together for our flu jabs and are in the same room with the same nurse at the same time. When he was 70 he was offered the pneumonia one alongside the flu. I wasn't. I asked and was told I was only 69. I had to wait another year. A bit daft as we were both in there...

Did you know? Corona Vaccine Priority

It's alright Boris-smashing or Government-smashing, but would the other lot have done any better? We will never know, but I can't believe they would.

    Getting a flu jab

I have had the flu jab for years, long before I was even diabetic.

    Type 2 Hba1c

The HbA1c test measures the glucose in the haemoglobin red cells. It doesn't measure anything else, but you can have a full blood count test that will measure your cell counts.

    Diabetics on Statins ?

Are you living in England? If so you should be entitled to see your blood test results on-line, but to do this you need to register for it at your GP surgery. You could give them a ring.

    Annual Diabetes Check

I had my blood draw 2 weeks ago. My results appeared on-line 24 hours later - no cholesterol or lipids for the first time since diagnosis almost 7 years ago. After waiting a week to make sure, I emailed the surgery and had a reply within minutes. This was the reply from the Practice Manager...

    Annual Diabetes Check

We are also lucky to have a treatment room within our surgery that caters for minor injuries. It even has a small theatre staffed by the GP's and nurses. I have no idea what their current arrangements are, but no doubt they will be stringent.
