Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

I bought the FFP2 fluid resistant medical/surgical quality ones from somewhere. They weren't terribly expensive and we find them comfortable. I originally found them on Google but have lost the link now. What you may find useful are Microsafe 70% Alcohol Skin & Surface Moist Wipes . They come in...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

This is exactly why the English government changed it to the 28 day rule - to match what the rest of the UK are doing. Now we are all the same.

What makes you think the government would have to provide the masks? We all have to wear them on public transport and indoor places or risk fines, but we all buy our own. The school staff will most likely have their own anyway. Yes, there will be children whose families would struggle to buy...

    Can anyone explain why

My surgery has two blood collections each day, mid morning and afternoon. They must go quickly because my resuklts can be on line within 24 hours.

    Can anyone explain why

The real reason for surgeries no longer requiring fasting lipid tests was explained in the NICE guidelines at one time when it changed. Basically, it was for logistic reasons. Fasting tests are done in the mornings, as early as possible, in order to stop us starving to death. This would mean...

What do centenarians around the world eat?

I have a book and several articles written by a man born in 1820 in a small East Lancashire village. He was a social historian and prolific collector of family tit bits from around his village and surrounding areas. He wrote throughout his life. He was in his late 90's when he died (having...

    PHE scrapped??

Public Health England being disbanded? Good. It was a shambles long before this pandemic.

What do centenarians around the world eat?

In my family history and social history studies over the last 20 odd years has taught me that in England almost every household kept at least one pig. My ex father-in-law's home in South Wales, an old small terraced house, had a pig sty at the bottom of his garden. Thankfully no longer used in...

    Type 2 diabetes

Yes, you do need a glucose meter. One of these can tell you instantly what your meal choices are doing to your blood sugar levels, giving you the opportunity to tweak your diet. Unless you are on a glucose lowering drug (Metformin is NOT one of these) you will most likely be told you don't need...

Does high red blood count affect hbA1C

An elevated HbA1c can be caused by an abnormally slow turnover of haemoglobin - when our red blood cells live longer than the average life expectancy of them. Similarly, those who have a faster turn over of red blood cells are likely to have lower than expected HbA1c levels. The usual life of...

    Prediabetes Prediabetic

You said in your other thread you were diagnosed prediabetic about 3 years ago. Have you had any other HbA1c tests since then? The normal guidelines are that you should be checked every 12 months. When else do you check your own levels? Before and after eating? As it stands, your morning...

    Confused!

I suggest you contact your surgery and ask the receptionist to print out a copy of your blood test results. You are entitled to these. They will show you exactly which tests you had, and what your levels were. It is important that you know exactly what your blood sugar levels, your cholesterol...

Confusing BG readings after carb heavy meal

I would assume your big drop was because the carb heavy meal forced your pancreas to produce a large surge of insulin, dropping your blood sugars from high to normal very quickly. This also happens to me sometimes after I have overindulged in carbs. I liken it to Reactive Hypoglycemia except...

    Mask Exemptions in enclosed environments

Up to now, nor have I. However, last week on holiday we were chatting to a young man working on the next door cottage. He had 3 friends who went on a lads skiing holiday in Italy just before the virus reached our shores. All 3 of them got the virus. One had an annoying cough but nothing else...

Type 1 Hot weather - high BS

Strangely, I find just the opposite. My numbers decrease in hot weather, sometimes quite noticeably. Maybe because I am more relaxed and taking it easy. Except, of course, if I eat too many ice creams! Hydration is very important in this weather.
