Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

My daughter was sent home right at the beginning as she has asthma on her work medical records, even though it never bothers her and she hardly ever needs her inhalers. She was initially put on special leave with full pay. More recently she has been provided with a specially adapted laptop with...

    Latest HbA1c result

Agreed, but isn't it the ratio between potassium and sodium that matters most? Please don't ask me what the ratio is supposed to be!

I am so glad I am retired with grandchildren well out of school and uni days. It must be horrible choices for those who have to go out to work (anywhere) and for those with school age children or grandchildren.

Yes, good news about your HbA1c. It must be hard with all the steroids you take.

    Anyone been shopping yet?

I have the same problem with my glasses steaming up. I find it best to wear my specs a bit further down my nose and over the top of the mask, but then I can't see the floor when I look down as the mask is in the way, which makes it difficult going up and down steps.

    Anyone been shopping yet?

I went to the hairdressers today. I was told to wait outside for her to meet me, which she did. I was wearing a mask. She gave me a disposable bin bag to put my handbag and jacket in, took my temperature, told me to use the sanitiser on my hands, sat me down and put a disposable apron on me...

    Anyone been shopping yet?

I took a brave step today. I have been to the well organised garden centre several times since they opened, and today the bistro/cafe opened its doors for the first time. We didn't go inside because they have comfortable seating outdoors. We had a pot of tea. Very adventurous!!! It isn't so...

In shock - HbA1c reading down to 40. In remission?

I agree that you cannot say or believe you are in remission when still on insulin. It is probably the insulin that allows you to tolerate more carbs and if you come off it, you would have to reduce those extra carbs you are getting used to. Your doctor/nurse may also be correct in saying the...

Blood glucose monitor experiment - any insight welcomed

Thanks for that information. I understand.

    HbA1C test failed

I had a test marked similar to yours. It wasn't the HbA1c as that came back normally. Everything came back normally apart from a couple of liver enzymes and the lipid panel. My nurse said the blood had probably clotted before these tests were done. It was nothing sinister at all.

Blood glucose monitor experiment - any insight welcomed

Can you tell us why you want an OGTT ? These are very rarely done in the UK apart from on pregnant women and those with Reactive Hypoglycemia etc. An HbA1c will give you a much better idea of how you stand, and unless you are pregnant it is highly unlikely you will get an OGTT. If you are...

    Facing The Dreadful Facts....

Yes, more than likely it will. All that fat will have been sorted by your trigs who would have been swimming away madly in your blood stream.

    Facing The Dreadful Facts....

I would say congratulations on that excellent reduction in your HbA1c. :) I would also ask if you fasted for your blood test, and if so, for how long? If we don't fast before a blood test that includes cholesterol, the results can be affected, particularly the trigs and LDL, which in turn...

    Anyone been shopping yet?

All I know personally from airborne diseases is Kennel Cough, found in dogs. Misnamed Kennel Cough as dogs can catch it anywhere, from vet surgeries to the open air. After 20 years as a boarding kennel owner I can testify that it is impossible to get rid of, no matter how much anti-virus...

Apparently scientists are now saying the virus is airborne rather than droplets that fall to surfaces. They say it can linger in the air for hours after an infected person has been speaking or even just breathing out. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-53329946

    Anyone been shopping yet?

I had to go to my private audiologist twice recently. No choice unless I wanted to suffer even longer. No problem. On entering she had a PP2 mask ready for me at the door, plus an alcohol sanitiser. She took me through the otherwise empty building and opened all doors for me, both on entering...

    Anyone been shopping yet?

Apparently the hairdresser moved the loops from round his ears with a long handled thingy with a tweezer sort of gadget at the end, one at a time and put it round his head somehow. Don't ask me exactly how! That is according to hubby.
