    Anyone been shopping yet?

My hubby went to his barbers yesterday. It was appointment only, which it normally isn't when he goes. He had been asked to wait outside until called in, but the door was open and he was waved straight in. Normally 3 chairs and 3 hairdressers. The middle chair was out of use and the other 2 were...

    My GPS advice!

Be blowed to your doctor. He is from the Dark Ages. You can have praise from me. That is a brilliant reduction in such a short space of time, and an excellent weight loss. You have clearly worked very hard indeed and deserve many congratulations. Worry not about your total cholesterol - don't...

    Type2 confirmed yesterday

A drop from 121 to 75 is brilliant in only 3 months. No wonder the nurse was happy. Please don't be disappointed - it is an excellent drop. (and don't forget the HbA1c is a sort of average of the previous 2 to 3 months so will include the time you were stuck in the 9's.) Also well done to the...

    Type2 confirmed yesterday

It is common practice for GP's to devolve Type 2 diabetes patients to a nurse. Personally I have never once seen a GP in relation to my diabetes. After the blood tests that revealed diabetes I received a letter from the surgery asking me to make a nurse appointment. The nurse gave me my...

    Rapeseed oil

Basically, it is solid animal fats that seem to be best - butter, dripping, lard, goose and duck etc.

Are we reurning to 'normal' too quickly.

I think you are being over optimistic.

Are we reurning to 'normal' too quickly.

It won't just be Leicester. It will be all the other towns and cities where large gatherings have taken place recently, and just wait till millions get on those planes for a holiday, or visit large pubs that ignore the guidelines.

    Diabetics R Us

It isn't just school holidays when kids roam the supermarkets and pavements. In my day we were at school until 4-20pm then straight home. Nowadays schools throw them out at 3pm. They head straight for the shops to buy sweets, crisps, chips and so forth, then hang about in groups. It is a rule of...

    New to all this

The very best plan is not to snack at all. Give your pancreas as long as rest as possible. Eating anything between meals is not a good idea. If you are genuinely hungry, a cup of tea or coffee with very little milk, or use cream instead of milk, and that should keep the hunger at bay until your...

    Diabetics R Us

I was born by the sea and lived there for 28 years, eventually moving 35 miles inland to the countryside. I prefer the countryside, although we do enjoy trips to the sea from time to time.

    Diabetics R Us

I found the MOD very obliging. I sent for and received my dad's WW2 army service records, which were free of charge because my mum (his widow) was still alive at the time. Otherwise I would have had to pay for them.

    Diabetics R Us

How is everyone doing? We are doing OK apart from fuming at all the idiots having street parties, raves, going to demonstrations, and the half million on Bournemouth beach today, ignoring all the guidelines and potentially causing a second wave of the virus. I mentioned the other week about my...

    High cholesterol

I agree you need to get the full cholesterol and lipid panel before deciding anything. That means Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides. Without those elements neither you nor your nurse can decide what to do. You also need to fast before a cholesterol test or the results can be skewed.

Are we reurning to 'normal' too quickly.

Surely a second wave is coming with all these idiots such as those on Bournemouth beach and elsewhere, and the various ad hoc street parties, raves, and demonstrations. It will make a mockery of the hard work most of us have put in. Makes me fume.

How am I doing, do you think?

According to my lab reports, the HDL range is 1.2 to 3.5.

How am I doing, do you think?

Your cholesterol total is low, and this is due to the statin plus your low HDL. The HDL is the good cholesterol and needs to be as high as possible, so you do need to do some research on foods that will help. Also it is a known fact that carbs deplete HDL, so do watch the carb intake. My HDL...

    My GPS advice!

Steroids can actually cause a healthy non-diabetic to cross over to diabetes. This is a well known fact. I seem to remember reading that as many as 25% of non-diabetics on long term steroids will become diabetic. There is a class of diabetes called Steroid induced diabetes - and some members of...

How am I doing, do you think?

Are you in the UK? Just asking because it is highly unusual to have VLDL tested. They are the real baddies, but as I said, very few of us have been lucky enough to have this included. This may answer your question about cholesterol https://www.hughcalc.org/chol-si.php Very well done and...

    Anyone been shopping yet?

The last paragraph says it all. Dry Air Is the Culprit People do find themselves coughing and sneezing more after a flight, even if the air is cleaned. Still, the culprit is dryness because the typical aircraft cabin is exceptionally dry—probably drier than the air in the desert. At the altitude...

    Anyone been shopping yet?

There is one place I would not go as long as this virus is around, and that is on a plane. They are full of germs without the virus hanging about. The air conditioning is a joke - it is just recycled air going round and round the cabin. It only takes one person on that plane to be positive and...
