    Type 1 Shielding for diabetics

But not all over 70's with diabetes have uncontrolled diabetes, nor are they all obese, and nor do they all have other significant illnesses. To shield all the over 70 diabetics is yet another blanket approach. I speak as a well controlled T2, aged 72, with no other illnesses, no hypertension...

    I have spoken to nurse

Hi, Are you on statins? I ask because they can cause joint pain and muscle problems. Have you got your own blood glucose meter? By testing yourself before and after eating, and at other times, you can judge what your HbA1c may be like - up or down from last time. They give you the chance to...

Copy of letter sent out to NHS GPs re Shielding (03/04/20)

Type 2 is one part of the metabolic syndrome. The other parts are hypertension, high cholesterol and triglycerides, and tummy fat. With many (or most) T2s these occur together. A poorly controlled T2 is likely to have all of them. It also concerns me when folk are put on ventilators/induced...

    Insomnia a symptom of Diabetes?

Personally I have never experienced insomnia. I fall asleep very easily as soon as I get in bed. I wake once for a bathroom visit, then straight back to sleep. At least 8 hours, no problem.

This isn't going to happen. If some diabetics are asked to shield it won't be all of us. There are too many of us, and many are also key workers. I beleieve it is most likely to be those with very high uncontrolled BS levels, and those who already have complications of some sort. They still...

    Type 1 Shielding for diabetics

I do not believe all diabetics will be told to shield. There are far too many of us, including many key workers. A blanket one size fits all I'm sure won't happen. Possibly those with uncontrolled and high blood sugars, and those already with complications, but not all of us. We have no idea how...

    Diabetics R Us

Loving the Dutch banter. It has cheered me up! Loved the Salsa video, too.

    Diabetics R Us

I tell anyone I'm a diabetic. It matters not to me. What really gets my goat, though is when people refer to their nurse as "my diabetic nurse". Unless she actually has diabetes, she is a Diabetes Nurse.

COVID-19: are you wearing a mask?

It also depends on the quality of the mask as to how effective it is, particularly in relation to protecting yourself. Yours looks like a super-duper one. Most of us in the UK have ordinary masks, shop bought or home made, non-medical types. We were warned off buying medical masks in order to...

COVID-19: are you wearing a mask?

I thought the masks were to protect others from you, not you from others. They minimise risk to others, but not to the wearer.

    Diabetics R Us

No wonder you have been quiet on here. You must have been very busy. Your new home sounds perfect. I am doing well so far, thank you. Yesterday we took advantage of the relaxed instructions in England and treated ourselves to a full day out on the River Lune estuary and a picnic in the glorious...

I believe the shielding advice lasts until it is revoked following a government review. The date you have been given is most likely simply a guideline and maybe extended.

    Diabetics R Us

@Antje77 Goats make lovely and amusing pets if you have the space, and learn how to care for them. (their feet in particular). We had a nanny goat for many years. She was a kid when we rescued her from a hotel garden as she kept eating the flowers. She grew and grew and would eat anything, and...

COVID-19: are you wearing a mask?

My niece and her husband work for the DWP. They have been sent home and are being provided with a kit so they can work from home because their son is shielding.

    anyone else seen this

As I understand it, and please correct me if I am wrong, there are basically 2 sets of rules for people in England. The first is those who are clinically extremely vulnerable who must continue to shield and stay indoors at all times. These are people with severe conditions who have (or should...

    COVID 2019 Comorbidity with Diabetes

There is a lot of that happening I believe. Under normal circumstances when a person dies in a care home, as many do, a GP is sent for to complete the death certificate and ask the family if they want a postmortem. Normally the GP will have it on record what the person's ailments are and will no...

    LCHF Diet and Cholesterol

You don't have to wait until you next see your doctor. You can make a telephone call to your surgery and ask for the blood test results for cholesterol, lipids, and HbA1c. I am not sure of the protocols in Australia, but in England we can see our blood test results on-line if we register for...
