    Oh my days.....

Did you do another test to confirm the first? Did you have a disturbed night?

    Removal from register

2 years ago I was marked as Diabetes Resolved, which the GP backdated to my first HbA1c under 48 (it was 46, and all subsequent ones over the last 6 years have been between 40 and 44. I have 2 tests a year, so that is a lot of tests. I took issue with it, but he was determined to keep it...

    End of weightloss. Finally

Brilliant result, well done. :) Yes, I found it harder finding the right balance needed to maintain than losing it all in the first place. It took me a few months of going back to basics with weighing food and myself, tweaking this and that, and lots of record keeping. But I got there in the...

    Sugarfree/No added sugar products

I suffer with frequent ventricular ectopic heart beats. (P.V.C.) My friend, who has atrial fibrillation, was told by her consultant to avoid all sweeteners. I rarely have any artificial sweeteners anyway, in any shape or form, apart from in my many cups of tea. A couple of months ago I stopped...

    COVID 2019 Comorbidity with Diabetes

In the UK the doctors treating Covid patients will have full access to the person's GP medical records (I assume). Smokers will have their smoking details on these medical records. We are asked about smoking when we have health check ups. It is one of the tick box checks, and used when they do...

Covid 19 Elepant in the Room?

This is what my shielding friend received in her free food box. Tea bags, coffee, soap, body wash, toilet rolls. Tinned soup, tomatoes, baked beans, corned beef, tuna, fruit, mushy peas. Pasta, pasta source, Ready Brek, bread, apples, oranges, biscuits, carrots, potatoes. And a few other things.

    Keeping busy during Covid

My life isn't a great deal different apart from having to cancel or postpone our UK holidays, which we take every 6 or 7 weeks. Being retired means no stress about working that so many others have, no children in the household unless you count the dog. Lovely walk each day, husband merrily doing...

    Am I In Remission?

My GP coded me as diabetes in remission some time ago. All I have lost are the annual foot checks by the nurse. I continue to have 6 monthly blood tests, an annual retina eye screening test, and an annual review with the nurse. My HbA1cs have varied between 40 and 44 during this period. My nurse...

    COVID 2019 Comorbidity with Diabetes

The worry now seems to be the virus may become endemic and become a "seasonal" illness, returning year on year, as the flu does.

    Choosing to self isolate

I've seen a few different figures reported. I could be wrong with the 77.

    Choosing to self isolate

I have seen people on here reporting that an HbA1c of 77 or more puts you in the severe risk category, which requires shielding completely for 12 weeks. ie not leaving the house at all. However, your GP should have written to you about this. I suggest you speak to him again.

    How to test systematically

That is precisely what I found. It was my biggest motivator. As for testing strips, you may have to buy a new meter if you want cheaper strips. I will tag @Rachox who has more up to date details. Personally I use the Accu Chek Mobile and buy my replacement cartridges from ebay at a fraction...

    Blood sugars suddenly awful

Can you tell me why no high protein or high fat? Is this thinking due to your nurse training or something your doctor or the dieticians have said? Many of us on here found that low carb with increased real fats and normal protein actually improved our cholesterol.

    Am I In Remission?

Each GP surgery has its own ideas of what remission is. My own surgery believes it to be consecutive HbA1cs under 48 without medication for a couple of years. (maybe 4 tests over that time). There is no official guidance as far as I know. This is something I found from...

    How to test systematically

As others have said, it is an individual choice of when to test, but it needs to be consistent and more importantly, it needs to be recorded. I found the best way of recording is on a spread sheet with lots of columns and a space for notes. Whilst testing different foods, I also kept a food...
